Decided to put some new wheels on my Ti 29er and use it as a my town bike.
Picked up a set of DT Swiss X1600 and some Schwalbe G One 29x2.35" tyres off the One On Sale (£15 each!)
Got them set up tubeless.
And wow, it's fun. The bike fairly skims along and you can rattle it across cobbles no problem. The position is nicer too, more upright.
Think I'm a convert to the balloon tyres! Just need to get the pressure right - running at 35 psi for now, will see how low I can go.
It was a lovely morning for my first ride too.
Note Pikes for extra XurbanASSAULTx capabilities

The tyres look great with that frame! Very nice! What make of frame is it? 🙂
Looks to me like Titus Fireline.
Cheers!
I.
you enjoy spinning then 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
It's a Titus Fireline. You get them at On One. Not expensive £500-700 depending on your size/their current discounting policy.
Really nice as a trail bike... also for town it seems
Ah yes, the 28t front ring.... a little undergeared... But it is quite a large rear cassette. Smallest cog at the back = ~20mph, so OK for traffic.
Damn you OP, your photos have tempted me to replace the Gravdals on my Wazoo 29er set, now winter is over, for my 2.35 G-One Speeds or PX re-badged Vee Speedsters!
I went as low as ~30/35PSI IIRC last year with my G1s, but after getting a puncture, I reverted to ~35/45 (~92Kg for me and skinny fatbike).
Shame the tread is very shallow on the balloon versions of G1s compared to the 30-40mm variants, it wouldn't surprise me if the rear will be worn after spring and autumn this year, given how so much of my riding is on the black stuff.
Just doe the same sort of thing to my Malt2 so I can use it as a commuter. The Panaracer Fire XC's have gone in favour of 'skinny' 1.5" slicks. It looked really good, right up until I put mudguards on.
Now it just looks strange and awkward. Not even the shorter stem helps it.

Properly fitted full length mudguards are your answer here. They look really good! 🙂

Wait until you try a bit of offroad. Much better than you'd expect.
I run between 15-20 psi.
15-20 PSI? The official range is 23-50! 😮
Running them with tubes on 20mm internal rim width wheels, I don't think I would chance anything lower than ~30 up front, with higher pressure on the higher load bearing rear.
I've got them on wide rims.
My Cove Hummer that I've had since 2003 - lovely lovely bike, the past few years it's mainly been used for child haulage / family rides / commuting (which means it gets the most use of any of my bikes).
Had Schwalbe Big Apples on it which were great, but I had loads of trouble running them tubeless. When they wore out, replaced them with Maxxis DTH just so I could run them tubeless, the skinwalls had nothing to do with it..
I have a surly karate monkey, bought as a frameset to go with some tyres i already had.
fully rigid, with surly big apple 29x2.35s
rolls surprisingly well, i got it for bikepacking/touring, v pleased with it.
the tyres were originally bought for my ebike, work well on that too.
I had similar aggro running Big Apples tubeless. Now running Marathon Almotion tubeless on my rigid Solaris as my commuter.

Did you take it over the jumps before or after you took the photos?
Now running Marathon Almotion tubeless on my rigid Solaris as my commuter.
How are they?
The marathon almotions are good. They aren't as big as the big apples (for the same size tyre), but they were a doddle to tubeless.
They aren't the lightest though! But a nice smooth ride to commute on, and carry speed well.
Gah! Missed that! When were the G One Speeds £15?
For comparison, do/have any of you ridden more conventional road rubber eg 23-32mm tyres at 50-80psi?
they were a doddle to tubeless.

It's the tubelesness that appeals to me! I quite like fast tyres though! Currently have Marathon Racers, 26" x 1.5". It would be great to know how they compare! 🙂
I have ridden conventional 23mm tyres at 50 psi - you could feelthe rim hitting the road at every pothole
Yes, I've done the same commute on my SS belt drive hybrid (23/28mm Gatorskins) and my CX bike (35mm Gravelking SKs)
This seems about similar to the CX bike speed-wise. The hybrid was slowest, mostly because you have to slow down for all the bumpy bits...
myopic, towards the end of last year, I think. Got some myself. They'll be going on my 29er at the weekend for on/off road jaunts and a certain beach race.
I used to commute on 32-35mm tyres on my CX bike. The 2.1" slicks are obviously slower, but I would much rather be on the rigid MTB when commuting on unlit potholed winter roads.
Cheers, Ned. £25 at moment at OnOne and had been hovering on them over at CRC before, so just interested that I missed a trick!
I'm heading out to my girlfriend's after uni today - about 16 miles along the canal path, with a fair few starvar segments.
Will see how it compares to my CX as have lots of recorded rides with that
