After doing a loop of Skiddaw and summit (but Ullock fail thanks to wind )ive been looking at the loop around Blencathra but would like to summit as well.
Is the best way to get to the summit via the field centre and then descend via Scales fell, and then pick the loop round Molesdale and Skiddaw house and back to the car park at the bottom of Skiddaws bridal way

cheers for any help 🙂

Only way i've been up is from the track that starts at the Blencathra Centre which basically just zigzags it's way up. I've gone down via Scales Tarn, Doddick Fell (very hard, very technical) and round the Back of Scales Tarn I think, follow the river/valley for a bit then pick up another trail that drops down to Scales.

All trails are pretty technical/steep and Blencathra itself does feel quite exposed. Not one to try if you're not sure of that sort of stuff or as a solo ride. Ullock is definitely easier. I'd also avoid busy times just to minimise any conflict with other trail users as it's all cheeky.

Definitely easiest way up is from the field centre up Blease fell, hard to ride but easy enough push/ no carrying. Lovely traverse across to the summit. Good descents are down scales fell, doddick is tricky (harder than ullock pike) or north over atkinson pike and down to the head of the glenderamackin valley, then follow the path on the north side of the beck to the FB, cross and climb up to the head of mousethwaite Combe and down the FP to the road (great finish!)
