Think its time I bleed my Shimano (105) road brakes. I've doen mtb ones before so relatively comfortable but does anyone have any experience of the road ones - ie is there road specfic bleed kit?
Currently browsing youtube for videos on it!
I used the Epic bleed kit on mine, worked fine.
I used an EZ Bleed kit from Amazon, found it better than the epic one. Â The clip to hold the bleed tube to the nipple as you open and close and the catch bottle make it much easier.
The process is similar to shimano Mtb (ie bleed funnel on lever, use syringe to push fluid up into the funnel, remove syringe and fit catch bottle and do a gravity bleed and some lever flicking).
I just used the funnel that I've always used for my MTB brakes, on my road bike brakes
One tip i'll give you is if you have the large bleed screws (M8, need the plastic adaptor to fit the bleed cup), DO NOT overtighten them, just a nip and a bit. Go any further than that and they'll jam up, and you'll have a nightmare removing them.
As above, I was a bit worried thinking it would be complicated but essentially it's the same as mtb. I used the funnel at the top.
Just make sure you keep it clean. Pull the hoods right back and cover with a paper towel. Clean with degreaser afterwards.
My hoods were the original ones that were a bit baggy. I replaced them after with some new tighter fitting ones. Felt like new levers after that!
Don't forget to rotate the levers to burp the reservoir. 😉

What make?
Don’t forget to rotate the levers to burp the reservoir.
How do you mean?
There seem to be some convoluted fluid paths in the road levers, compared to mtb levers, and air can get trapped quite easily. Tilting the bike left & right, and way forward and back whilst flicking the lever can often release bubbles from a seemingly completely bled system.
