You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I managed to push a pison out so I need to bleed my back brake. I do not have a bleeding edge tool. I do have fluid, lots of syringes and a bunch of fittings/ attachments for bleeding 'old' style codes. Bleeding kit is now on order, due to be delovered Friday from EBS.
In the meantime, is there a way I can get a decent bleed without the kit so that I can get a ride tomorrow?
Cheers in advance.
What have you got to loose with a lever bleed attempt ? Can you take the brake off to do it ?
Where are you based in case someone can lend you one !!
Only thing i can think of is loosen the bleeding edge port at the caliper (4mm allen) and push through dot fluid from lever (if you have standard kit) which hopefully should push air out and some fluid from bleeding edge port. Help if bleeding edge port was at highest point but might take bit of angling of bike if you can't remove brake.
I'm near Ammanford, between Carmarthen, Llanelli and Swansea.
I hadn't thought of a lever bleed, that's a good idea- I'll give it a go. It'll be on the bike though because it's all internally routed.
I'd just install a syringe on the lever and push the fluid through and out of the Bleeding Edge fitting. Move the caliper around a bit but mainly keep the port at the highest point. It's just a 4mm allen key head as mentioned above.
best i can do is bring one over Fri arvo mate sorry.
Leave bleed nipple closed on caliper, attach syringe filled with fluid to lever. Pull lever plunger up to sook any air up the system - it may not make it to the syringe but it'll hopefully move it all the way to to top of the fluid in the system.
Once you have done that a few times, open the bleed nipple at caliper (and get a bucket to collect the fluid as it escapes)...and slowly depress plunger. Hopefully that will push the air down the system. Close caliper bleed nipple and pull the plunger on syringe a few more times. Repeat this until syringe is almost empty.
The bleeding edge port is unscrewed by a 3mm allen key (I think), if that is removed, do you have another syringe with a suitably sized adapter to screw in there? If so, it would be much cleaner to attach that syringe (with a bit of fluid in it) and do the plunger pull after you have bottom filled the system (which hopefully pushes all the air up towards the lever).
