This really annoys me, blatant lying on an eBay listing; I was watching this Rock Lobster team titanium on eBay,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rock-Lobster-team-TI-Titanium-frame-17/233624145487?hash=item3665158e4f:g:Jq8AAOSwz7Ve7PlV

to quote the listing “this build was shelved a few years ago” in “brilliant used condition”. I wondered why the decals were only placed on the seat tube but wasn’t too fussed as if I won it I would strip the decals off it anyway.

Then I took a look at completed listings and spotted the exact same frame had sold a month earlier, complete with cracked seat tube in exactly the same place as the oddly placed decal!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rock-Lobster-Team-Ti-MTB-Frame-17-M-Titanium-XC-Sadoff/274269590445?hash=item3fdbbdd3ad:g:uEwAAOSw30JeSa16

And just to confirm it is the same frame, the original seller has left feedback for the current seller! Owned it for a few years have you? Bet the serial number is the same as in the first listing, shame it’s not shown in the new listing

Someone is going to have a surprise sooner or later when they remove the decal and find a crack having paid top money for a frame the seller clearly knows is damaged.

Would be an interesting exercise to go and collect it in person.

Always did want a Rock Lobster back in the 90s.

Report to eBay as fraudulent listing.

I've just asked him outright. Then explained that I'll happily bid and collect if he can convince me it's not the same frame.

Lovely. New seller has possibly had the crack repaired and applied the decal as a cosmetic cover up for a repair?

Lovely indeed... Why does he claim he’s had it for “a few years” then, not since April?

“Decals are in great condition for age” - so they should be they are only just over a month old!

And why no mention of the repair?

Yes, even if you take the most favourable angle that's still not exactly a truthful description. But I'd put money on it being cracked under that sticker.

Funny little crack that. Impact damage?

Easy win there; buy the frame, whip the decal off, take pictures of crack and serial number, make claim to ebay/payal, profit. Or it's not the same frame.

Of course this is the problem with anonymizing feedback and winning bidders as it allows arseholes to get away with their nonsense.

Everyone ask the seller why is there a decal on the seat tube? Original frames did not have a decal there.

no visible marks or dents

thats the sneaky bit, would that be because its hidden by a random decal

I wonder if after selling it they’ll pester the manufacturer for a refund.

Don't know what the problem is. This is just the type of buccaneering free market spirit we are encouraging post Brexit.

Just magnify this up to an entire economy and you get the idea.

Wow, that's impressive. Connecting a sticker over a crack on a bike to Brexit!

I think @dannyh just won a bet of some sort.

"feel free to collect"

Maybe its a different frame, maybe they're looking for a hiding?

Yep, and I'm not even trying.

That is a first class dick move

If that is about my post then it is fitting as Brexit is a dick move. But the mother of all dick moves.

I think @dannyh just won a bet of some sort.

Only with myself. I don't gamble. Not even with other people's money (see also, again, Brexit).

😊

Blatant lying is also saying the frame weighs 1.1kgs! The scales need zero-ing or they are still holding on to it!

Ask what the frame number is. It is clearly visible in the previous listing.

Yeah!

A halfway cutting comment on a thread diversion I instigated myself for no good reason other than shits and giggles.

I suppose I should count myself lucky that I have the self-awareness to know that I was being a bit of a nob from the off. There are plenty of folk in the world who would genuinely count that as a 'win'. 😅

What really got my attention was 'Rock Lobster'. I used to crave the Team Tig 853, what a lovely frame that was....

New message to: t4haus

can you tell me why the decal on the seat tube is in such a random place? That placement is not normal. Can you send me a picture of the serial no to confirm its origins. thanks

Good luck reporting it!

Ebay once cancelled a motorbike helmet I was selling because I used "like shoei" in the text but haven't done a thing about two "fake" bikes I keep reporting (bso's with proper brand stickers and described as decent bikes).

Fair enough @squirrelking, but do leave some for the people selling counterfeits as well! 😉

Feel sorry for whoever wins this. Here's the serial of the original listing for the cracked frame.

Original seller has confirmed this is the same one and t4haus was the buyer.

This is grossly unjust ie seemingly nothing can be done to report the item. I feel sorry for the ‘winner’. Slow car crash.

We could just bid it up and win the item? Or you could give the seller a call at work, persuade him to do the right thing?

As I said, I hope whoever wins it knows exactly what they are getting and takes him to the cleaners. No money, no frame, no sympathy.

Not sure, the listing says 'no visible damage', which is strictly correct. Not sure the dishonest 'shelved a few years ago' comment would warrant an immediate refund. Unless the buyer pulls the stickers off, they'll probably not know.

Possible end scenario 😕

Sells, sends off, picks up whatever and upon inspection finds the hidden crack.
Contacts seller who then claims the carrier caused the damage.

Claim then goes into the carrier, as I would expect the seller will be insuring this for the scenario to work.
Amount all above board there to see on ebay, all packaged, maybe even pics taken( though someone tis sneaky might take a pic of an undamaged box, then cause some crumpling, or tear a bit, then send that. At the carrier unless this is really bad it will go into the system, when it gets to the buyer, the 'damage' is noted, pics taken and irrefutable proof that something happened during transit is there for all to see.

Just a speculation of course 🙂

Looks like the seller cancelled the auction somehow. Wonder if all the enquiries about frame number got him rattled...?

No, the auction ran its course and finished as normal....somebody bid & won it at £350

Just hope someone sees this thread...Rock Lobster team ti is pretty rare/niche so you'd think you do a bit of Googling before buying. Probably could have done with a thread on RetroBike

It was definitely pulled, the listing want't due to finish until this evening and the phrase " the listing was ended by the seller" would be "Bidding has ended on this item" Perhaps he was disappointed at the profit versus the risk of issues with the unlucky buyer.

Fair enough although seems strange as its showing as 'green' for the winning amount in completed listings which I thought was a sale (as opposed red or black for no sale)

If you end a listing early, and there are bids, eBay charge a fee, unless you sell the item to the highest bidder.
