Just been reading that this new holiday destination will be opening in May.
Has anyone been there recently? Is there anywhere for riding or have all the trails been destroyed and built over? Is there any public access at all, presumably the bridleway can still be used? After all, people still need somewhere to dump their rubbish. 😉
I ran through there a month or so ago, it always was hard going there but was a very wet muddy day with leaf cover over most of it making it especially hard going to try follow any trail. The place was a bit trashed with logs and stuff all over, they had also had roped off certain sections for building etc. some of the bridleways and main routes were accessible but overall pretty negative experience im afraid. I really wouldnt bother going there for a ride, even though someone like yourself will make the most out of it.
would be interested to hear of a more recent report myself.
Can't imagine why anyone would want to stay there, wedged in between the M3 and A303, with the constant noise.
Plus the wood is not that interesting either. And not much that close by unless you want new tyres from Micheldever. 😉
But given that people stay in static caravans next to motorways, there's bound to be takers looking to get away from the "suburbs" in their 4x4s !
Thanks dobo. 🙂 I was just curious particularly with regard to the middle-classes that will inevitably stay in the log cabins with hot tubs!
There surely has to be some some land for guests to use although having looked at the website, there is no mention of cycling opportunities.
Yes, it was definitely hard work riding there but those bomb holes were fun. 8)
Hi CG,
Just guessing, but i expect access will now be restricted/denied. As you are no doubt aware the BW just skirts the western boundary.
I agree FieldMarshall but the attraction is that it's not far from That Lahndun and, as you say, useful for tyres. 😀
There's some terrific riding reasonably close though, an area that I know well. 8)
I grew up just down the road, so also know the area well. Although i hate to admit mostly road motorbikes back then. 😳
I never thought Black Wood was that special for MTB, but i still opposed the development nonetheless.
I shall watch tripadvisor with interest to see the feedback. I bet "noisy" appears frequently.
