Going to ride the Black Mountains tomorrow, I've found 2 GPX routes any idea which one is best? As not sure which one to do!

Cant tell much from those rubbish bing maps but I think the first one has a rocy descent and viscous climb in it the the second doesnt.

You might want to glean some info from my maps I have pics of which hosted on my site:

I have done that killer loop before and was very disappointed. The stuff through the farms early on was very slow going and frustrating. Y Das is completely unridable and very hard to push up too.
The long descent at Crug is fantastic as is the run along the river to the reservoir. I'm trying to find another way to the top of Y Das which is more ridable.
I did the Mynydd Llangorse loop today which is on the edge of the Black mountains and was completely blown away by how good it was.
Happy to send you the GPX if you like.
Its published in this book.

Yeah, send me the gpx email is in profile. I think the 2nd route above avoids the climb up Y Das.

the sacrifice of the shove up Y das is worth it for the decent at Rhiw Trumau.

got to pay penance for those rocky descents!

The long descent at Crug is fantastic as is the run along the river to the reservoir.

Thanks for your maps. I see you have an X for the path between Y Das and Disgwylfa. Does this mean that it is unridable?
I have thought that might be an alternative to Y Das and have been meaning to give it a try.

not an "X" but an arrow in both directions on two routes. The pink routes can be done either way and with variations.

Yellow routes are usually walks too.

My rubbish map marking, sorry!

Not at all I really appreciate you sharing.
Do you know if its possible to ride along the top of the ridge between Disgwyla and Y Das?
The last time I was there I considered giving it a go.
That would eliminate the need to do the long shove up Y Das.
You could come from Crug Mawr follow the ridge to the summit of Y Das then do the rocky descent to the reservoir.

Never done that ridge by bike, and when Ive walked it it was a while ago and I cant remember whether it was passable its whole length. But the quality of the route to the end of the forest is OK if that's anything to go by. I cant imagine it would be too difficult in summer. Im sure it's been done by others, but havent seen a route guide with it on to transpose to my Explorer maps ('fraid I dont really use GPS)
