It's been a while since I've ridden in the area and we're camping in Crickhowell for a few days next week. I'm looking for a decent version of the various routes in the area starting from Crick, so minimising the road riding to get round to Mynydd Du.

It might be worth riding / pushing up Crug Mawr maybe? But is there anything left to ride in Mynydd Du forest, pretty sure most of the old DH stuff got wrecked years ago.

Also interested in cheeky options around Table Mountain or Pen Cerrig Calch. I've ridden up the Grwyne bridleway, I'm guessing it was the one on the east side of the valley. I cant remember if it would make a good descent, but it looks like the one to the west is more promising.

Do locals ride Sugarloaf - when I've walked the footpaths there I always thought they'd make a good ride, but I've never tried to plot a route. Weird that a couple of the bridleways turn into footpaths before the summit (weird, as in 'makes no f'ing sense whatsoever but that's Welsh RoW laws...).

All suggestion welcome, ideally 2 days of riding straight from town so we dont have to pack up the van for short drives.

Thanks

I could get a few gpx files for you tonight if you want of my regular routes, parents live there so ride from the town centre. Got one route past Llangorse reservoir and the Beast route that are probably the best options for two days and a route round the Blorenge if you don't mind a few miles on the canal too. I never ride round the Sugar Loaf area any more as there is usually too many walkers to cause conflict, as you say the bridleways just stop mid way due to old parish boundaries!

Thanks. I'll probably ride Blorenge in the drive back to Bristol.

There's probably a fair amount of road getting from Ctick to the Llangorse area, but that ride so have some amazing singletrack!

Beacons Black

Llangorse loop

That's my two regular routes that work well, if you want the actual gpx files message me your email address and I'll send them to you. It may be worth seeing if @welshfarmer knows anything too as he's based nearby and knows the area better than I do. My knowledge is kind of stuck at 2010 and lots of that stuff that I rode and helped create/clear has now gone due to felling.

When are you travelling down? If you pm me your email address I can sort you out plenty of stuff to do. I won't put any of it up on here though as it is almost all off piste/cheeky 😉

1. There's nothing Welsh about that law. There was not such a thing as Welsh Law at that time.
2. Notice how the County Boundary coincides with that.
