The Dutchies rave about the Black Keys - and a band called Band of Skulls

I get the former - but not the latter ...

I've been a fan of the Black Keys since 2002 when their first CD came out, got everything they've done and seen them many times. For me there is no-one like the Keys, they're on their own.

Missippi Allstars. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, particularly the album they did with R.L Burnside. Black Crowes, more so the second and third albums as they have gotten a bit more laidback recently. White Stripes. Delta Spirit. Brendon Benson. Soledad Brothers. Little Barrie. 22-20s. You may not like any of them of course but that's what's great about music.

Band of Skulls supported Black Keys last year.
Try LastFM.com - type black keys into the 'radio' tab and it will play hours of stuff like em!
I'm quite liking The Black Belles at the moment...

This is easy. Junior Kimbrough as he is the template for all early Keys stuff. The Black Keys even did a whole album just dedicated to covers of his music. Dan has said many times that Kimbrough was his main inspiration.

Otherwise try:

The Easy Offs
Hillstomp
Any Mississippi Hill Country Blues - RL Burnside, T Model Ford....etc.

As mentioned above -

Jon Spencer
North Mississippi Allstars
White Stripes
The Dirtbombs (especially the album - We have you surrounded)

And not like the Black Keys but if you like modern blues rock check out Bob Log III, especially the boob scotch album, it's a classic.

Dunno if you've heard Dan Auerbach's(lead singer/guitarist of Black Keys) solo LP - Keep It Hid. Brilliant.

Try also Band of Horses, Grizzly Bear, Delta Spirit, the Dead Weather, The Walkmen, the Hold Steady....

I like those kind of bands but some other bands I classify along those from a few years ago (ie, good singing voices, good lyrics etc, ie A PROPER BAND.

For me these include:

Hootie and the Blowfish
Del Amitri
The Gin Blossoms
The Lemonheads
Counting Crows
Black Crows (as mentioned in an earlier post).

I know many more but my mind is blank at the moment.

Your welcome Charlie, bung me an extra sticker next time I order something. A couple more to add to the list, She Keeps Bees are a brilliant two piece, check the heck out of Counter Charm. A band I discovered today are The Delta Saints.
Nobeerinthefridge, I hope you were drunk when you recommended the young tories. Seadragon, bang on. Looking forward to seeing the Crowes later this month.

The most similar-sounding band is the Black Eyed Peas.

The Kills looks to be the biggest omission from some very good bands already mentioned.

Although Black Keys are a bit to closer to the "twee" end of Bluesy Rock

I'd also go with Band of Skulls and The Steepwater Band are worth a try. Oh and not forgetting my new found love of Rival Sons.

+1 left lane cruiser. (Imagine the black keys really drunk)
Dunno if you like hip hop but they done a record called black roc with some rappers. V good.

On a more southern country blues rock thing try The Brought Low. If you like the black crows, you'll like them.

Good thread. Lots of new stuff I need to hear. Love me some spotify premium.

I went to see the band of skulls in Southampton with cross riding Dr Pete, they were good. The support I thought were great, but I can't find out anything about them because they were called "folk". Try googling for folk music, or folk band... You can't bloody find them but will find millions of sites relating to folk music.

School boy branding error.

It's like calling a bike brand "mountain".
