Would I be a mentalist if I used a black cycling helmet for XC cycling in Spain

Get one of these - then you'll be fine if you venture onto the plain as well 🙂

I have a white XC highly vented one and a black more MTB style one. I still get hot and sweaty when riding, it doesn't make a lot of difference tbh.

Depends when you go, it's pissing it down in Barcelona right now!

I was sad enough to look into this a year or so back!

Consensus seems to be that due to the huge amount of thermal insulation (the foam) in a helmet, the colour is pretty much irrelevant.

Venting is the main factor.

Was there actually any research or just anecdotal? I've always avoided black/dark helmets but thinking about it that does make some sense.

Wrap the helmet in tinfoil. You'll keep cool and look cool.

In all honesty I think it was both mate.

No "research" into it directly from memory but some crossover data from other fields based on the effect of the foam etc.
