Last year a bought a load of XT 12sp from bikediscount de, but this years prices are nowhere near as good, Chainreaction/ wiggle has not much of interest and Bikeinn BF15 code ain't working for what I want. I've only bought one item so far, last year I made about a dozen orders by now.
Some shops aren't even bothering.

No sht.. Supply / demand. Not a lot of decent kit around to clear out in the first place. A lot of it will be just 'DISCOUNT!' bait to get you looking.

Was never going to be much good this year anywhere I wouldn’t have thought, all online retailers are about as busy as they can handle, no need to discount if it’s selling anyway.

25% off everything at superstarcomponents, trouble is I'm not interested in any of it. Uberbikes seem to have forgotten its BF.
A lot of places have plenty stock, trouble is they're keeping all the goodies out of the sale, it's mostly crap nobody wants even at 60% off. I was after some decent bars and saddle but theres hardly anyone doing an across the board sale.

I've seen a few posts scattered around the interweb where Jan 1st could well bring approx +20% on bikes and bike bits in the event of "No Deal," so if you are pondering anything major, it might be better to buy it this side of 2021... Even though prices on many things look awful compared to ~12 months ago.

Prices on the Garmin Edge Explore seem to have stagnated at £180.
They were down to £130 a few months back (which I missed).
Need to drop further for me to take the bait!

Maybe they remembered they're not actually septic tanks?

Well CRC started the discounts weeks ago, so I got a carbon bar and riding trews for about £50 each.

Did buy a couople of Superstar chainrings today though, to keep in stock.

Edit: Also bought a couple of major components at very good prices from Germany recently, since - as above - that may not be an option from January.

its usually pretty poor, i wanted a pair of melon alleycat eyewear, spotted they always do BF sales, so waited a few weeks and got a 20% off £24 off RRP, code worked last night so item has shipped.

even HUKD is lacking this year..

i think now is the time to support the shops you still want to be here in a few years time.

Genuinely nothing tempted me today.

Good news as I'm clearing all my debts asap due to the next few years getting a bit too "end days" for my liking.

I bought something yesterday that’s £25 more expensive today.

You could spend some of the money you've saved on a Singletrack sub 🙂

We shouldn't forget we are not entitled to a big lump off just because it's the season of excess consumerism. These shops are people's livelihoods after all.

I suspect supply and demand is part of the issue - I'm looking into gravel bikes at the moment. So little stock anywhere. I'm resigned to coughing up full retail because I want one (if I can find it).

I reckon the high street deals could be decent as they try and jam through volumes and stock shifting while they're open but the world's gone bike mad this year.

Lets be honest this year the companies that can afford a good black Friday discount are the ones that don't really need the business.

I also suspect that people just don't have the stock to discount. Bike components were all sold out already, most retailers and i think even mid sized brands didn't buy/make as much this year. I think that's particularly true with high end fashion stuff, and clothing. What retailer in their right mind would have bought heavily for AW20?

The sooner black friday dies off, the better.
Amazon will continue pushing it as they brought it here so I guess that means my wish won't be fulfilled.

Bike shops have made an absolute killing this year and with a reduced wages bill in most cases, so it's been a double whammy for them, a 10% off everything would have been nice.
Hats off to Superstarcomponents doing 25% off and Unite components doing 20% off this weekend.

I’ve done ok, these below are genuine savings too, not just savings based on high rrp.

I’ve kept an eye on prices for about the last 3 months. What I have noticed is that prices have even changed daily/hourly.

25% off a coffee machine
50% off a cycling top
30% off some tights
22% off a gps watch

In all saved £650

CRC is a joke, the Nukeproof Blackline jacket I was looking at last week for £72 jumped up to £120 and the DHB top I considered at £55 has jumped up to £75! Black Friday my arse.

Cycling retailers? Having already seen a boom in sales in SS20.

Well you should have bought it then instead of waiting to try and milk as much out of them as you could. CRC always do 4 weeks of “deals” which change each week to keep you going back to look again and again.

Didn’t buy anything, these supposed deals are only deals if you were going to buy anyway. Otherwise you’re just spending money you didn’t intend to.

All retailers have completely cottoned on to how to pretend to do black friday now, completely nullifying its appeal. Just like january sales of old, they use it to flog old stock at a crap discount and new stuff at next to no discount. You can easily find the price lower at other times of the year.
Stuff ive been watching for a while has barely changed price despite being counted in the black friday 'sale'.
I hope it dissapears, its meaningless now, purely snags people through bait and FOMO before xmas. Original black friday in the states was actually a thing with proper first come first served big discounts.....not any more.

Really? There has been virtually no bike stock available since June, it's been bloody awful.

Because the first time they tried that in the UK, it lead to huge punch ups in the aisles at Asda as everyone flocked in to grab TVs.

A bit of Hunger Games-style violence would fit right into the current cultural climate though.

That's an idiotic and completely false statement.
Their sales saw a huge spike but then they had few/no bikes to sell; in their trading year they will sell no more bikes than they forecast.
Then consider that they could not get any replacement stock.
Most bike shops are selling out of parts which cannot be replenished in the short term.
You cannot run a bike shop without stock of either bikes or parts.
There are real concerns about how they will keep going.
As for reduced wages bill, FFS you're referring to people's jobs and livelihoods.

My source? Two LBS.
