Hi guys
When purchasing black chilli tyres, do they have it written on the tyre anywhere to identify it as black chilli?
My mate reckons they don't!

BC have 'Handmade in Germany' on them. Ordinary ones don't.

When you look on the base carcass of the tread face they will have little bunches of chilli peppers moulded onto the carcass! Typeface stickers are easier to fake moulded rubber less so!

Which ones aren't? I understood that every bike tyre they make in Germany was black chili.

They don't. Rubber Queens have and xxx Kings have chess symbol type crowns moulded onto them - I remember noticing this when I was tipped off about a certain Halfords having black chili ones very cheap - and that they'd been identified because they had chilli peppers on the carcass. They didn't, they had different symbols and were plastic compound Continentals. V disappointing...

Does it depend on the tyre?I bought the Rubber queens,which were stated as BC,i was sure i seen tyres before that had a wee german flag with Handmade in Germany on them,think they were Barons,but mine say made in germany in very small writing on the tyre around where the different tyre details are,

The other way to tell is the mouldings on the side wall;

Criss-cross = not Black Chilli

Chessboard = Black Chilli

I bought the trail king 2.2 ust version from merlin,according to the conti website they're black chilli compound.it also said as much on the plastic packaging that you get with them.they have the "chess board" pattern on the side as suggested by timmy.not as heavy as I thought one weighed 750g the other 800g in case anyone was wondering
