You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My better half is away for a couple of nights so it seemed like the ideal opportunity to grab a night out. We'd originally planned for Friday but the weather was looking less than ideal so headed of Saturday evening instead. Ross had chosen the location - a flat spot by the Red Bothy on the River Dulnain. We approached via Carrbridge - a 28km ride, including a very short detour to pick up a "hidden" beer on the way.

On arriving at the bothy, we found no breeze whatsoever and a thick cloud of midge descended on us. The bothy was unoccupied so we headed in there, hoping that the wind would pick up a little as forecast.

When the wind did arrive, it was full of wet stuff and, by them neither of us could be bothered with pitching outsied in the cold and wet so we decided just to sleep in the bothy. This turned out to be a good idea as the midge were back full force in teh morning.
A cuppa had, bags packed, we headed out to face them, netted up until we'd got to a bit we could outrun them.

Return was over the Burma Road. This is a tough climb at the best of times but cold legs and a laden bike made it even tougher. This is Ross looking back at the climb we'd just done and we weren't at the top yet.

The descent back to Aviemore was pretty spectacular though.

We stopped at one of the local cafes for breakfast and some people-watching before a leisurely ride home.
Can we renane this thread bothy? 😄
Good stuff, cracking pics.
Bevvy at bothy, not bevvy at bivvy.
Or is it bivvy at bothy with bevvy 😕
This is a completely different experience to the (twice) I’ve done it.
Last time (which was a night in the Bothy) involved three foot snow drifts and very little cycling. The other time was a winter solstice bivvy that I’m sure you (Scotroutes) will remember.
The climb out over to Aviemore is still a bitch... won’t be trying that again in a hurry.
Oh, I much prefer being outdoors, but needs must. This is my 57th consecutive "bivvy a month" and I reckon only 5 of those have been in a bothy of any sort.
I’ve twice tried to upload photos of my first bivvy adventure to this thread but each time I submit the post it completely disappears! It was a bloody lovely trip if anyone’s interested!
The forum software seems to be ****ed. I'd originally tried to post this on the Weekend Photos thread but it kept failing for some reason.
Please report it to tech@singletrackworld.com (l already have and have had no reply yet)
Will do, cheers.
I was using Postimages.com if that matters?
You could also try starting your own thread. That's what I had to do.
