Soooooooooooo I started a thread discussing the quality of riding in Hebden Bridge area as I was staying there at Christmas....................or so I thought. Turns out it is nowhere near Hebden and is in a place called Rosedale Abbey. Anyone ever ridden near this obscure little village?

There's loads, all you have to do is go up Chimney Bank & you're sorted. 😉
You'll see when you get there.

There's loads round Rosedale Abbey, one of my favourite spots on the Moors. I wouldn't want to ride up Chimney Bank though. Personally like. We'll, maybe on a road bike. Actually, just no.

Anyway - there's the old railway round the valley if you want an easy pootle, there's some great singletrack heading towards Lastingham, fast wide descents towards Lastingham from Ana Cross, fun descent to the Red House cafe (I think that's what it's called) off the railway, then if you want something a bit longer you can head over towards Rudland Rigg and the great singletrack descent down to Low Mill. You could head up to Bloworth Crossing and follow the wide tracks across the tops... There's loads really. Though a lot of it can get pretty boggy pretty quick.

I Googled that, and it's a no from me. "Locally known as the chain breaker" why would anyone want to do that? Madness

The rest sounds promising

There's loads, though some will be boggy/v soft. There's the dismantled railway line circles the top of the valley and a bunch of bridleways that make good singletrack. I know it best in the next valley north - Great Fryup just over Glaisdale Moor, where you'll find: https://www.yorkshirecyclehub.co.uk/ and a bunch of nice descents and other stuff to do. Get googling.

just round the corner from Dalby Forest trail centre then,

that's pretty weatherproof, the reds worth a run out and the car parking is cheaper in winter

Brilliant, thanks all! Looks like I have options to have a trundle with others or a blast on my own, quite looking forward to it.

Lovely place. Loads to go at, but might be a bit boggy this time of year.

Actually OP, you don't need to go ALL the way up Chimney, just a few hundred metres. There's a BW off to the left that loops round towards Lastingham & past Ana Cross where you can get onto the disused railway which is a decent ride round back to Roseadale. A long way further but saves a LOT of pain!
IIR the Chimney used to be in the Milk Race years ago.

Chimney Bank is fine on an MTB, we have sensible gears. I am old and boring, but from the village I'd suggest up CB, left over Ana Cross to Lastingham (pub), then the BW along Rosedale back to where you started. Then up CB again and the old railway line to Blakey Rigg (pub) and back home along the far side of the valley.

Yorkshire cycle hub is fairly close by and worth checking out either on a ride or as a place to start and get route advice.

Lots of trails around Scaling Dam and Kildale.
Well documented routes all over that area.

More excellent info thank you all. I think I am going to pay Dalby a visit when on my own and then take some of the less gnarly options for riding with the brother in law.

Should have done this a few months ago but for anyone else who might find themselves in this area, make sure you take your bike! The ride around Rosedale Abbey (despite that damn hill) was really nice, and lots of other routes off the main one that looked great for further exploring. Then there was Dalby forest! I was just expecting a cpl of hours pootleing round some singletrack.......oh nooooo 3hrs plus later we returned to the car park and I was knackered, but smiling. Some lovely flowy singletrack and some tech stuff, just a fun day riding, wish I had been a bit fitter but it was great.

The lion Inn, blakey ridge.

Spent far too many long dodgy nights including a few snow enforced lock ins.

8 pints of old peculiar, T bone steak and extra mushrooms. Those were the days.

It was stunning. Living on the south coast it was such a different riding experience, and as a bonus, no people! There would have been oodles of them down here
