Hi,
Just looking to replace my gear cable. First time I've tried to do it myself.
Just looking online and I'm quite bewildered by the choice.
Does price/quality matter? Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Si

Just get some Shimano xt cable with the sealed ferrules. Anything above is over priced. Anything below is cheap rubbish that won't work well and won't last very long.

Better to buy cheap and replace often imo.

And have crap shifting in the meantime? No thanks. Xt is hardly expensive and lasts for a long time and works very well. Each to their own but when you spend loads on a drivetrain what's the point in putting a crappy cable on to save a few £££

inuse shimano sp41 casing with the sealed ferrels and mostly sram pit stop 1.1mm inner.
Works well and last well

Either XTR for quality or cheap stainless. Just don't get galvanised ones.

Cheapy inner works fine. Just be aware that some cables are sold with a stop at both ends - you don't want this.

This. Pop into your lbs and buy a couple of cables. Probably a couple of quid.

I've always used XTR cables and outers (often cheapest at CRC) and get a year or two of perfect shifting. I only ever need to replace when I upgrade/ buy a new part. Bike ridden all year twice a week.

This XTR cable set from CRC is a steal (I've had a couple) BUT - it comes in individual pieces for interrupted outers and won't work for full length setups.

Make sure you replace the outers too.

I suggest you don't mix cheap inners with shimano outers. When I did this the new inner was a tiny bit thicker than the shimano cable it replaced. It took me months to work out why my shifting was not quite right. Replaced with a shimano cable and all back to normal.

As mentioned above, you can't really go wrong with XT.
But ....... these work brilliantly, and don't cost a fortune :-
