This is the reason I went for a Bird.
Fired them a quick message at the end of lunch today asking about my lower pivot bearings.
Got a reply saying they'll pop them in the post, no fuss! An example of how companies should treat customers.
Now.... What tool do I need to remove the old ones and fit the new ones? Never done bearings before 🙂
I did all mine a couple of months back. I think - but i can't be sure - you'll need a bearing puller/slide hammer for the lower pivots as they won't just knock out. Definitely the case on the swingarm set.
Give Bird a call, they'll talk you through it...
Ah cool, how big of a job was it Alex?
I think I'll be capable of doing it, just need to buy the correct tools really.
Two of us - one who is very good with tools and me who is a mechanical savage - did all 12 or 14 or whatever i was in about 2 hours and we were taking care (plus we mixed the bearings up and a few are different, oh how we laughed...) so just the pivot ones probably 20 mins if you have the tools.
Basically remove bearing cap, pull bearing out, give the housing a wipe, tap new bearing in. Oh if it's the lower, I missed 'remove cranks' first!
Yes, removing the crank will probably help 🙂
Suitable sized socket and rubber mallet to tap in?
Bird continue to impress.
Thumbs up to the team there.
Suitable sized socket and rubber mallet to tap in?
Yep. Interference fit. No Drama. Assuming you can hit the socket square 😉
EDIT: I'm racking my brains now if the lower pivot has an axle in there or something. Should have had a look when I was in the shed a minute ago. Nope, can't remember. It was all pretty obvious tho!
Not so sure about hitting stuff square so I'd better have a practice 🙂
Just got a bearing extractor/press from Superstar for £7.50 for the 6000 bearing. That might help.
