Hey folks. Off to Inverschneckie with my better half for the weekend and looking fir somewhere interesting to ride. Not been to Learnie Red Rocks for years. Is it any cop? Other recommendations for more wild trails? Will be on my lonesome, so don't want anything too extreme.

Trail centre / natural stuff / the mountains? Lots of choice, depends what and how far you’re wanting to go.

Learnie is fine and better surface for this time of year. But lots of other options. Inverness itself (Craig dunain - the mast). Contin which I prefer to Learnie, contin more natural stuff. Evanton/Fyrish.

Aviemore and Cairngorms not far too.

I'm more inclined to natural trails, but it is awfie wet at the mo and want to ensure "fun" for a few hours rather than a slog fest. The last time I rode Contin was also a long time ago and it was a mud fest. Far preferred Balblair on that occasion.

I’ve not been to Balblair in years but th8nk I’d heard a lot of trail closure, overgrown bits and felling on the go. A fair trek if that’s the case.
Learnie safe bet for avoiding the mud. Also a fair number of natural lines there too maybe new to you if not been in years. Most from top of main hill the orange etc start off.

Cool. Cheers. Lairig Ghru is also under consideration.

LG will be pretty wet at the moment (assuming you just mean from the lodge track down through the forest). Soils in the area dry out pretty quick, though we are getting more rain tomorrow. If you decide to ride it I'd head up the descent rather than approach from the lodge.

Golspie rides well in the damp.

Take a wee drive to Aviemore and do High Burnside.

Not been there for years (Xmas 2005) but we bumped into the trail designer (IIRC) - Tim Meek who gave us a guided tour of the new black they were working on - he rode it like it was a blue - very skilled rider.

Cool pic!

Contin is great. Nice parking too. Easily spend a few hours and a few nice walks. Climb is easy and good for a few laps.

Just looked at Learnie. It appears to be quite short. Probably not a couple of hours of biking there. Havering between Contin and Lairig Ghru now. Mebbes get the missus to drop me at Boat of Garten, go over the Ryvoan Pass and up the Ghru then back down to get picked up at the Old Bridge Inn. Hmm.

You could do the Loch Eanaich route after the Lairig Ghru.

Interesting. Never been down there. It'd be that or Ryvoan Pass due to time limitations and a bit of a knackered back. How does it compare? I take it the route is just there and back as per OS Maps.

If you enjoy Ryvoan then it should be right up your street. There's a choice of routes. I usually take the newer, higher track in and the older, lower track out.
