Ho hum, a new and somewhat unusual (but not bad) injury
On a great xc ride out to the land of fantastic sausage rolls in the Oxfordshire countryside, I was trundling down an overgrown bridleway , ducking the branches and roses and weaving the brambles and nettles when some nasty wee flying stingy/bitey something or other went under my helmet (*bike one …….. ) and got me what I thought was a couple of times, a bit painful but not bad, so I carried on and had a great day out.
The next morning I awoke to note that my forehead felt slightly funny, it was, my left forehead was as expected, a furrowed pensioners brow, as was the right, the middle though, was slightly red, and perfectly smooth, and raised about 1cm in a 3 or so inch circle, two small puncture wounds at top and two at bottom, antihistamine cream applied. This morning my forehead was a bit better but my right eye was partly closed as the swelling had moved over there, ho hum.Mrs keeps laughing at me as well.
Disappointed at lack of photo
Cover it up with a big silver H.
If it was two rapid stings it was probably a common or garden wasp and the tighter skin on your forehead has led to the swelling going outwards rather than upwards.
If you think it is more of a histamine reaction then it could be a horsefly, although I doubt they'd inflict two wounds as quickly as a wasp would.
Given the weather, I had been a bit surprised how few horseflies I'd seen up until about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, not anymore. There's loads of the horrible bastards around.
One flew straight onto my face on my weekend ride and tried to bite me immediately. I got it just in time and it was the last thing it ever did.
