Afternoon all,

I have a day in London on Friday and will have a few hours to kill. I have decided to spend that time wisely by wandering around and seeing bike based stuff. I'm thinking of interesting shops, maybe cafe's or anything I else vaguely interesting.

The velodrome, Condor Cycles, Look Mum No Hands and the Rapha shop are on the possible list so far, anything else worth visiting? Central ish would be best though I will be out as far as Stratford at some point.

Thanks all.

Any chance you can book in a taster session at Lee Valley? The building and venue are pretty cool (and the showers are actually cold) but riding it is ace.

plumber, that is a given, weather permitting I shall be using said bikes to travel around for the most part. Those and the DLR to Stratford in the hope I get a front seat.

Edit, leggyblonde, yes, that is the reason I'll be at the Velodrome.

Another Soho bikes recommendation, nice people and they do good work. Service area the back is open to see.

There are a few niche Singlespeed shops too although I haven't been - most are outside the central area though

Specialized Covent Garden, Soho Bikes, Rapha, Condor, Cycle Surgery Holborn, Giant Docklands, Bespoke Canary Wharf (opening friday), all shops worth visiting.

For riding? Boris Bikes, if bringing your own then Lee Valley Cyclopark *London Olympics site*.

See how fast you can take a hire bike (I refuse to call them after the "mayor") around Regents park.

This is all excellent stuff, thank you. I have now planned a kind of bike shop crawl around London, I'm looking forward to it already.

The route is:
Euston Station to pick up a Boris Bike
Bespoke, Jermyn Street (maybe, not sure on this one yet)
Rapha shop
Soho Bikes
Condor
Look Mum No Hands
Bespoke, Canary Wharf
Peleton & CO
Velodrome

This means I may well miss out on the DLR but I can live with that. I can feel my credit card twitching already.

There's a Bespoke on Farringdon Road - save you the trek over to Canary Wharf and it's between Condor and Look Mum No Hands. Not sure it would be open on a weekend, having said that...

Farringdon Road is due to close soon and they are moving that site to a new one next door to the Lloyds insurance building in the City of London.

Canary Wharf is their brand new flagship store opening on 1st May.

@fruit

Swift in Spitalfields is worth visiting and has a large Cycle Surgery opposite which is rammed full of MTB gear!

Peleton & Co is around the corner in Spits market, with Evans flagship Spits store literally opposite.

If coming to Docklands check out Giant Docklands on 48 Lanterns Way off Millharbour on Isle of Dogs (about 5 mins walk from the Wharf). come and say hi and have a free coffee (I work there if you haven't guessed!)

we get all kinds of visitors at the store, this was Dame Kelly Holmes last week

Ok, the Giant store is now on the list, esher shore, if you see a tall bloke wandering around talking Brummy feel free to say hello.

I want to visit the Bespoke shop in Canary Wharf as it's their opening day and you know, they may have the odd store opening treat. Maybe not, but it's worth investigating anyway.

The only other shop I would add to the list is Mosquito Bikes, which is on Essex Road close to Angel Islington (which is a nice enough area itself to warrant a visit). It's primarily focused on road bikes (like Condor, which is actually 100% road focused but a great shop and lovely people), but Mosquito bring in/offer Moots, Indy Fab, Peggoretti ( 8O), Guru, Zullo, Alchemy and Lynskey so their colletion of bike porn is well worth a look.

Is Mosquito now mostly road? Used to be a lot of MTB way back (one of my first Mtbs came from there).

Last time I was in the shop it was just road & a cross bike, nice enough place though.
