Must hurt losing that Ibis and the others too.

Re: Please people stop keeping valuable bikes in garages...

People that know about physical security systems will tell you that you need layers or rings of security to protect any asset.

The OP didn't actually mention whether they were nicked from his garage, but if your garage isn't behind gates and your bikes aren't secured to ground anchors with massive chains, you only have one layer of security, the garage door, and your kit can be nicked in 2 minutes or less by someone that forces the door quickly.

A secure perimeter (gates and fence), a garage door and then ground anchors with the best chain you can find in a position that make it awkward to use bolt cutters will make most thieves go and look somewhere than has less layers of security. Add an alarm to the garage and a thief that enters and then has to cut through chains with an alarm blaring will probably call it quits.

Probably not much comfort, but a lot of high end bikes are getting nicked in Leeds at the moment, so if you want to reduce your chances, you might want to consider this.

Had my Trek nicked mate from Ossett last bonfire night!!!! Police told me to check around the local car boot sales...... errr hello is it not your job to find them? If I'd have found it I would be locked up by now... On a plus side insurance paid out with no quibble and am sporting a new bike!!

My bikes have and will always live in the house, will never ever keep them in a garage no matter how secure.

Feel for you fella, got done myself last week in the similar area. They seem to have been on a spree round Leeds recently (have hit shop nearby and bunch of other punters).

If I could keep it somewhere better I would.

House and garage now sporting alarms, d2d lighting plus more locks and chains to come.

TBH though, as my neighbour the builder pointed out, if they want in they'll get there, just go in through the roof.

Hope your insurance is up to it, I know the £3k limit on outbuildings nas caught me out - stupid mistake.

Try getting in touch with the newsdesk at Yorkshire Evening Post, they ran a piece on it yesterday about mine being nicked. Who knows, someone might pick it up a bit and link some of the thefts together.

All veery well the coppers saying it won't be investigated (apparently often dismissive of thefts from outbuildings) but when there's this much (apparently) going on maybe they'll look into it a bit further.

Any chance of you dropping me a line with your crime number and details, in case I contact police?

Any pics of the blast? I saw two yesterday that looked decidedly "odd" while in Leeds city centre.

Last thing I heard on the nicked bike front was thieves from Middlesborough often go to Leeds to get their goods, how they know where to look, I'm not sure.

Bradford thieves will travel to Leeds as well.

Not sure where the Leeds thieves travel to or do the stay at home.
