Scumbags broke into my garage last night and stole 3 bikes, despite being chained to a ground anchor with a motorbike chain. Bikes taken were my green and purple Santa Cruz Chameleon with Shimano XT 1x11 gears, X-Fusion Manic Dropper, and brand new Newmen wheels, my son’s stock Giant Trance 2 in bright red, and worst of all my wife’s gorgeous orange Cotic Soul (size XS) in Cotic orange which was previously my son’s (bought about 7 years ago) and passed to my wife when he outgrew it. Please share and keep your eyes open. Thanks.

This is getting stupid now. There's a gang clearly operating unchecked in S10.

rico70 did they angle grind the chain?
I'm S10 and they cut mine this way the other year.

Chain was ok (pragmasis) so they must have used the angle grinder on the padlock itself. There was an extra cable lock that they also cut through too.

It just f'in sucks, assuming you got your stuff from securityforbikes, then I'd highly recommend talking to them again about what happened as they went beyond the norm to advise on extra security for me.

And S6, S11 and surrounding areas ... and they've been operating unchecked for quite some time now ...

As jameswilliams54 says this seems like very much the same MO as a number of other thefts - they are equipped with heavy duty cordless angle grinder capable of cutting through big chains and/or Squire padlocks, target sheds and garages where they can use the angle grinder undisturbed and have sufficient transportation such as a van to shift multiple bikes.

Gutted for you rico70 ... I had 3 stolen (plus spare forks, shocks and wheels), two of them were pretty rare and despite constantly looking I've never seen them again.

+1 for talking to securityforbikes

Oh man gutted for you 🙁

S10 must be easy pickings for them, houses with garages a bit remote from the houses so can work undisturbed and lots of keen MTB on the edge of the peaks.

Do you think you were targeted specifically or were a few garages broken into on the street?

KIttyr I don’t know. Given the number of thefts talked about on here and on Facebook etc it seems like there is a lot of it about. Don’t know whether it is targeted or just bad luck.

Did you have it at the front near the ground for easy access?

POah something like that. Lock suspended on the chain between the bikes so not near the floor.

I'm thinking of changing the lock to the other type as its only £50 and a lot more secure.
