I'm planning to do a ride this weekend where I get the train up to the peak then ride home.
The train will be from Langley Mill to Hope but I have to change at Sheffield and its run by Northern Trains.
On a Saturday can you just turn up and get the bike on the train, Langley Mill doesn't have a ticket machine so I have to get the ticket on board does this alter things?
Where do I get on and store the bike whilst on the train?

Look for the blue cycle symbol on the outside of the train which tells you which door. It'll probably be obvious inside the train where to store the bike.

Yes you can mate. I lived in Sheffield for 15 years (gotta love those hills) and never had a problem. I also catch the notts train daily with my bike and the trains are geared up for bikes. Just look for those stickers as the above post states

I have a friend who works on the rail line and he tells me they don't have to allow bikes on, they choose to as this widens their demographic

Worth checking that you do not have to book a slot. Some rail companies do and some do not. When you do you get a free ticket for the bike. When you load your bike keep the aisle clear to keep the guard sweet.

As has already been mentioned, just look for the blue bicycle symbol. I take bikes on trains all the time and never bother to book a slot. Just be polite and courteous and you will have no problems.

A lot of local trains have limited space for bikes (typicall 3-6) so it's worth turning up early. Sometimes there's a guard hanging round on the platform and you can ask them where the bike storage is going to be on the next train.

Northern are great for bikes, I use them everyday for my commute with my bike. They've usually got room for about 3-4 bikes depending on the type but I've never been refused even at rush hour when the train's packed and there's 8 bikes shoehorned in. As above, no booking, look for the carriage with the bike symbol and off you go.

Great news thanks chaps. My worry was changing at Sheffield and then some grumpy guard saying you cant bring that on here.
