So my little one has an extremely light balance bike and has been using it for 1 year very happily.

She can do singletrack in the forest, ramps in the back garden and can do the BMX pump track at the park so she pretty confident.

Although she's not outgrown the bike I've started thinking of progression and think she needs to learn brakes and peddling.

Any suggestions for her next bike? She'll be 3 in April so I'm after a light as possible bike that I can take the pedals off to get her used to braking then put the peddles back on.

Stop mollycoddling her and get her on a bike with pedals preferably a 2nd hand Cnoc 14/16 depending on height and just let her get on it. If she's comfortable on a balance bike the balance bit is done, it's just pedalling to learn and that's easy enough. The brake isn't a problem as she won't go fast enough to worry you unless there's hills involved.

My 2 did this and are now both very confident riders

£335, choice of colors and simply awesome little ripper.
As above, if shes confident on the bmx track and can glide down hills with her feet up making her balance corrections then go staight to pedals, no faffing 😉

Fair point. Didn't want to knock her confidence but I suppose I should have more faith in her!

Pinnacle are my favourite. Very well designed, nice long wheelbase for much more stability than most, and good value for money.

Braking WAS a problem for us.  Pedalling even on flat makes you go much faster than balance bike, so we had her trying to scrub speed off with her feet for a long time, which led to some crashes.

Oh and I have a Pinnacle 16" bike that I need to sell, in top condition (wasn't ridden for long) if you are interested.
