Remember the old Wednesday night TBC night rides. Well tonight myself and Jimmy of this parish did a mini recreation. We both now live in Midlothian and just down the road from me the excellent Cross Borders Brewing Company are making some very tasty beers. So after riding some of the local singletrack we popped in for a tasty beverage and thought it'd be a good idea to organise a STW get together. The brewery is stumbling distance from the Eskbank train station, there's loads of trails in the vicinity and there's the option of food too. So I thought I'd mention it and see if there's any interest in organising something. TTFN

There's an antique armchair in the brewery with your name on it, Col.

I work in Dalkeith so a ride after work would be awesome! Tuesdays and Thursdays are good for me too.

translation for non natives like Jimmy
Ramorra? = Is this happening tomorrow old bean?
and if so, What time?

I can stick some gravel in my pockets to throw over my shoulder infront of any **** that turns up on a luggage strewn curly barred hipster chariot.

No the morra. I've done myself in today. I think they said they might have something happening the last Sunday of the month. If not the local pizza place can deliver there. If anybody turns up on a gravel bike I will make the route particularly unsuitable for said bike.

Remember them? Best times best. Best times.

Probably up for something again like this in the future. Do most of my riding on my own now for a bit of peace.

Got new adventures starting in September so there will be a dramatic change to my daily schedule making meet ups easier.

Out tomorrow morning if anyone is up for a trundle. Won't be much, maybe 2-3 hours and probably in the pentlands. GRAVEL obvs.

choose life. choose a gravel bike, choose matching luggage and stupid shaped handlebars, choose a shitty hipster beer and a burger from an industrial unit that only opens one and a half days a week.

Why the **** does riding bikes have to be organised around the opening hours of the hipster homebrew warehouse and occasional burger van when it's pretty much impossible to be further than 400metres from the wids, the smell of take away food, cheap bevvy and weed at any point in Midlothian?

Bunch ay doss ****s!

😉

👏 There's already been a Chainspotting fillum, otherwise there's the start right there.

Btw Geex - were you at Gladhouse reservoir last week one evening looking for a swimming spot? Looked like you.

A pal of mine has just moved up here from Hebden Bridge and we've just started recreating Ride Drink Pie from down there. 6.30 from Bonaly Stores (in homage to the old TBC rides), 2 hours ISH of gravel bike/gentle MTB mincing then end at the Spylaw pub for drink and a pie. All are welcome, although I appreciate this may not be the right crowd to advertise to!

Nick - we certainly did a couple of weeks ago. In fact, I always go back along the water of Leith anyway to get the canal home.

I should be up for this as its my long weekend off. In the spirit of TBC wednesday night Pentland rides you really need coastkid on his Surly monkey doing wheelies whilst chatting incessently. Oh and TJ flying down Bavelaw hill claiming to have hit 50 on his tandem .

There's a few folk out into the Pentlands and then retire the the Railway Tavern - don't think they're on STW though.

I'm interested in the evening ride (saw it via the power of Facebook too). I'll need to form the splinter group for a pint in the Flotterstone for those returning this side of the hills.

Munroe, NZ. Me and the wife sometimes go that way. The alternative from Bonaly, Puke hill, is a bit too much for her.... I grew up round there, spent many summers all over the pentlands.

Nick - because it's a bit of a social do we have made a plan to avoid Puke Hill.

We'll be there tomorrow night, everyone's welcome to come and join in, invite your mates. Just let me know if you're coming through the PM's so I know who to wait for.

Better at riding than lotsa fingz TBF.

To make it there for half 6 I'd need to come along on my E-commuter (slicks shod Emtb hardtail) . Should even the balance for riding with Gravel racers tho. Eh?

What route are you thinking?

I haven't mulled over this week's route yet, I'm not mega familiar with the Pentlands yet (I only moved back to Edinburgh in September and never rode in them before that).

E bikes welcome. To be honest, any bike is welcome.

I'll PM you.

I can confirm from my ride this morning that once you're out in the rain, it's not actually too bad. Hopefully see some of you there tonight.

Twas grand...I'm upgrading my tyres to worn Schwalbe land cruiser 35s as they seem to make Sam like shit off a shovel.

Oh and can any burgers keep an eye out for a big hitter on an ebike near the canal, apparently geex got lost.

Thanks for coming along guys, it was a good do and to be honest the rain didn't make that much difference (apart from the ride back along the Water of Leith after the pub which felt like bloody November 🤨).

You should see Sam ride on a near bald High Roller in winter 😳

Thanks for waiting. And apologies for being nowhere near you by 6:30.
Rain was heavy AF in riccarton/Sighthill at 6:30 (I know.. I know.. Canal? Water of Leith? All look the same to me)
Got to Bonaly about 15mins later and it was dry. Don't remember the names of any trails, paths or hills in the Pentlands anymore but I
headed straight up the (middle) dull wide steep surfaced track. Through the gates to the very top of whatever hill it is you can look down on the two reservoirs from and descended the other side to the big reservoir nr Floterston. And home via auchendinny.
Saw and spoke to a couple of other no mates mtb riders but no sign of any Gravel riders.
Might be along next week if I can work out how to get to Bonaly not via riccarton.
Turns out 10 out of 10 Embra canal users don't even know where Bonaly is.
.

I'll not be there but Sam will be in charge. Let me know if you're coming so I can let him know who to wait for.
