Does anyone keep their car as well as bikes (and related stuff) in a single garage, and how do you arrange things? Wall hooks? Pulleys to suspend from the ceiling?
No help i'm afraid but I use my car as an extra security measure by parking it right up against the door!
I have done so in the past. Car was a nissan 200sx, and i had about 3 or 4 bikes at the time. As i recall, a couple were hanging from the rafters and the commuter just about fit down the side.
Yes, 4 bikes hanging from rafters on hooks by the saddle with the front wheels hanging above the bonnet, I dont have enough height otherwise. Garage is reasonably long so have room for shelves and a work stand in front of car. I have as much as possible on the walls or roof including the winter wheels for the car which hang on heavy duty ladder hooks. Cheap packs of hooks from amazon for the most part except for the wheels would rather not have them fall off the wall.
People put cars in garages?
Where do you fit the bikes, woodburning stove, humungous workbench, brewery set-up, etc?
I am as baffled as ocrider. Cars in garages indeed. 🙄
Maybe it's a car that the OP doesn't want his neighbours to see?
I have my bikes hanging up from their front wheel at the far end of the garage. There would be enough room to put a car in, as despite being narrow it's a lot longer than a car.
However the workbench and the rest of the junk prevents this 🙂
I've put a long shelf down the length of the garage at head height which allows for a surprising amount of storage and would not impede a car.
Maybe have a look into the 'dado rail' type setup - where the bike wheels stand on the rail (I guess you'd probably want it just above wing mirror height) and small bits of rope with hooks hold the pedal so the bike can't fall away.
Could be quite neat if space permits. I've seen it done by somebody who posted a photo on here, but wouldn't know where to start searching.
Edit: Sort of like this, but less posh:
In another life I had my bikes hanging from a pole mounted on the ceiling. It meant that bikes could be pushed together (like a curtain) or pulled apart for access and removal but would take up very little space when my ex missus decided that the car needed to be kept dry.
Not usef them personally but my mate had pedal hooks the help the bike with the tyre touchibg the wall much like the shelf affair but achieved with one fixed point of contact. The he squeezed a rat rod beetle in.
Easily but it is only a Mini.
Car, 5 bikes, freezer, tools, two cabinets etc
Thanks all.
Car isn't anything special, but the block of flats I've moved to has a garage per flat and very limited parking beyond that - would be good if I can just squeeze everything in there.
Shelf or pedal hook ideas could work nicely, thanks.
shelf brackets and some pipe lagging to prevent scratches
[edit] hang on....
garage per flat
bike in the flat otherwise it won't be there very long 🙁
something like this?

pedal brackets from Point.
I have brackets fixed to the wall, 3 of them have rings fixed to the wall to chain them to. Still room for the car which does stay in the garage when it's not used.
My garage is too small for a modern car so its just my mancave now (plus no desire to stick one of our cars in there anyway)
Motorbike, 2 bicycles and racking unit in the front half. Storage, tools, work table and bits in the back half. Space/walkway running through the middle as its our only side access to the garden
Sell the car, buy more bikes, sorted.
I've done it, not the biggest car in the world or the smallest garrage though.
Some wall bike hooks from Class Ohlsen (ussfull shope or whatever it's called), they stick out about a foot so take 2 bikes with conventional top tubes or at least a big gap between the seatube and seatstay. And commuter lived against the back bumper.
In another house I put some big hooks in the rafters that took the bars and bungees to take the seatposts. Only really usefull for freeing up space underneeth for more storage, couldn't have gotten a car in there.
Clas ohlsen is best shop in cardiff. They probably sell that underground Porsche lift there too.
