Bikehut 1600 bike light.
Currently selling for £50 at Halfords, it has integral batteries (good quality LG 3200mAh), is reasonably small and lightweight and puts out plenty of light with a decent spread and forward throw.
But does it live up to the 1600 lumen claim? Well, yes and no.
Testing in the integrating sphere the initial measurement was a whopping (drum roll) 1928 lumens, but like Magicshine and Gemini, I could see the numbers dropping before my eyes due to poor heat management. After 5 minutes it was down to 1257 lumens. After 10 minutes it was 800 lumens.
Now that is with the light enclosed in the sphere with no ventilation. In use the drop would not be so dramatic as the airflow would help reduce the temperature. I reckon you could depend on getting 1000 lumens in use.
Exposure, M-Tigersports and Cateye lights didn't show a drop in output in the sphere, but they cost a lot more.
The Bikehut 1600 has a good beam pattern and is bright enough to see where you are going in most circumstances, and it will get you noticed by other road users.
Is it good value? For £50, it certainly is.
When you are riding along in cool air (at night) the cooling will be vastly better. I've never had a light that could hold its output when being tested inside in still air, but they last well outdoors.
Good to see the light output is in excess of the stated output. I've seen reports that the battery lasts longer than stated too.
Brilliant value light, except the fact it has a stilly amount of modes to go through!
Yeah, the mode thing is annoying - too many. I think I only paid £35 for mine last year so can’t complain. I don’t use mine too frequently but when I do it’s worked fine, which speaks highly of it’s durability.
