So have just started to research into guided mountain bike holidays and the name Bike Verbier keeps appearing.
However on their website they don't offer guided tours, instead they provide maps and directions (inc. accommodation).
From reading previous posts I had assumed it was guided, though is this not true or have they just changed it for 2020?
Thanks in advance.
It says:
As your hosts we are here to help you tailor make your own adventures with as much or as little help as needed. If you want to do your own thing we will be on hand to provide info on routes and logistics, or if you want to put all this into someone else’s hands we will provide contacts for some great local guides who will do all the planning for you
I guess after 18 years of guiding they're having a rest from that part of the holiday set up.
Was always one of the best reviewed holiday companies, I reckon anyone they recommend to guide you will be top notch too.
They no longer guide but will fix you up with map and gpx files or a local guide.Great accomadation, food ,good riding advice about the top trails.
We had a great holiday out there being guided on some of the less known, more out of the way stuff. Without the guides, bus and bike trailer, the holiday wouldn't have been anywhere near as good.
Guess the question is, do the guides they direct you to have all that and how much does it add to the holiday?
We were there in the summer and they no longer guide, but sorted us out with a guide for a couple of days and on the others kept us right with gpx files, advice, lifts in the van up to top of passes etc. Accommodation, food and chat was brilliant. Really nice couple and extremely knowledgeable.
As mentioned they stopped guiding I think in 2017, they provide the routes. I’ve no doubt any guides they use will be as knowledgeable as they’ll be guys they have worked with. Absolutely lovely couple I must get out to see them again.
I can recommend Miriam Saugy for a local guide. She’s ace and works with BV.
Just for the sake of transparency: Phil and Lucy are good friends of mine and I guided for them for a season back in 2004. They've stopped guiding themselves now but I'd bet my last dollar that any local guides they recommend will be brilliant. The food, chalet, service and everything else is top-notch with Bike Verbier too - there's a reason their reputation is so good, and why so many of their guests return year after year. Also, there's amazing riding that's easily accessible in the Verbier bowl and off the back of it too, and BV will point you in the right direction for all that stuff (some of it is hidden away, some of it isn't). The real gems are a bit harder to get to, but gpx files and inside info from Phil and Lucy will get you to them. As a riding destination, it's awesome, and there's plenty of other stuff to do thereabouts too.

If you want guided rides you could try Alpine Roots. Matt has been out there quite a while now and knows the area really well.
