You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Someone tried to steal my bike which was locked up outside work last night. 🙁
After failing to cut through either of my locks with a boltcutter, the POS has, out of spite, cut through my rear brake hose and at least half a dozen rear spokes.
We used to be allowed to keep the bikes in the store at the back but management kicked all bikes out. Needless to say, I'll be having strong words with the manager later today, and I've already made sure this incident was noted in the handover.
I normally ride my gravel bike to work but it had a puncture so I used the MTB. It is a tempting target I admit.
Can I replace a brake hose fairly easily?

Sorry to hear that. I had similar years ago! Someone tried to cut the lock, failed, then kicked the back wheel in so hard it snapped the rim. Had to walk 4 miles home after a few drinks at 11pm.
It's all fixable quite cheap if you can diy at home.
Some right scum around. Probably done that so you can't ride it and coming back later with the right equipment to get it. Brake hose is easy to replace and will need a bleed, spokes will be harder as will need a partial wheel build. Do you have another wheel you could use in the meantime.
On the upside, the chains and stuff did their job you still have your bike!
The external routed brake should be easy to replace with a line, end fittings and fluid. Spokes, again a faff-n-fix too....
Bastards, for sure, but hopefully a cheapish fix unless that's the body of the lever they've cut through
... but what sir requires is a shitbike for commutes, hopefully one so ugly that your thief can't even look at it
bonus is that you'll never need to wash it and it can be filthy all the t
oh
😉
Really sorry to hear that. What a sad, frustrated, miserable existence somebody must lead to go around doing that. Hope you get it sorted ASAP, replacing a brake hose and some spokes isn't major surgery, though you might better letting a bike shop do the spokes.
Spiteful buggers. I once had some scrotes piss on the bike after failing to break the D lock. I appreciate that's an easy fix compared to you.
Make sure no brake oil has dripped onto the brakes themselves when you do the repair!
That is really effing rubbish.
Hopefully your management will listen to you and let you use the more secure storage again.
Replacing a hose isn't that tricky, and there are loads of options. I've used uberbike ones, and they've got nice fittings.
Good video by Doddy.
didn't steal your light either.
That's really rotten, but I guess I'm surprised they only cut through the spokes and hose. If they're that vindictive, you wonder why they didn't knacker the frame? (Obviously I'm glad they didn't).
Probably done that so you can’t ride it and coming back later with the right equipment to get it
FYI these are my locks:

As you can see they tried to cut both of them with what appears to be a bolt-cutter.
You would need an angle grinder and even then the Kryptonite Evolution chain lock would be difficult to cut because it's very hard to hold a single link steady.
Probably done that so you can’t ride it and coming back later with the right equipment to get it
Yep, sounds like a variation on the "squirt glue into the lock so you abandon the bike and get the bus home" method.
Where are you based in case one of us with mechanical knowledge can help out
Kryptonite Evolution chain lock
Decent sized bolt cutter goes though the evolution lock fairy easy TBH. Probably lucky they had tiny ones

Lock picking lawyer (on youtube) broke the blades trying to defeat it with bolt cutters.
Whilst not what you need after a shift at work, at least you still have your bike, and it should be a fairly easy and inexpensive fix.
As others have said, get a junker for commuting. Something like a Dawes will be suitably unattractive for a bike thief but won’t be completely loathful to ride.
