Mrs Fish is about to organise the bike to work scheme at her workplace and she's thinking Evans cycles.

Any reason not to use them?

Limited brands, all though I expect they can get their hands on most things?

Otherwise, they were fine with my purchase.

I too have to use ride to work which means Evans only through my place. Personally I'd rather not use them as I've have bad experience before. Don't expect any particular expertise or assistance on bike fit, correct size, bike set up etc as you'll get none. I had a £2k XC bike with brakes that consistently didn't work (had a bad off on first ride due to them). Constant excuses and I ended up replacing the brakes myself.

OH has a bike which is wrong size for him, they said they thought it was ok.

I suppose as long as you don't want a trek, specialized, cannondale, mondraker, bmc, Fuji, pinnacle, gt, norco, charge, Genesis, kona or Scott. Plus all the other brands then it is pretty limiting.

I've been lucky with the purchases made from Evans, in that the staff I dealt with were good (or I perceived them as good).
Most recent purchase was sold on the back of the bike fit carried out by an experienced roadie who seemed a lot more switched on than some of the staff I have dealt with there.

I went for a road bike in their sale. New what I wanted and sorted it out online and over the phone with their cycle to work department.

Got my voucher and popped into the store to "buy" the bike with my voucher. It was in stock and ready in a couple of days.

They transfer between stores or bring a bike in from their warehouse so as long as you have a good idea of what you want there shouldn't be an issue.

A big plus is that I got a sale bike on the scheme with no premium which is different to a few other places.

My local Evans is pretty friendly, although they did miss sale me some rim tape, they said it was enough for two wheels, but not that bothered, I could have saved online but thier shop is convenient for me.

I've had two bikes from Evans now, both on Cyclescheme and without any penalties etc. Despite me buying my XC bike from the Canary Wharf branch the sales guy knew what he was talking about and helped out in any way he could.

I'd use them again but my first choice would be a LBS only because of 'David v Goliath' morals more than anything else.

I'm the opposite, my lbs are quite rude so I only use them as a last resort!
