You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Here's the challenge:
Three bikes - an old 26" Boardman HT with a Weeride and Trail Gator on it and 670mm bars (1750mm long); a Bird Zero AM with 750mm bars (1870mm long) and a Banshee Spitfire with 810mm bars (1890mm).
The shed - flat roof from 2080 to 2150mm high (sloping widthways), 1740mm wide, about 3000mm long but there's lots of other stuff to fit in here. Door is at one end, was planning to put the bikes at the other end.
I have lots of big hooks! And a big chain and ground/wall anchor (some of the walls are concrete).
How would you fit them in? It would be so easy with road bikes, it's these massive handlebars that are causing me trouble...
Slacken the stems and twist the bars 90 degrees
Slacken the stems and twist the bars 90 degrees
Not doing that, this is meant so I can grab whichever easily, without having to rearrange them - plus I'm super fussy about getting bars exactly straight! 😉
5 seconds to straighten them. Put an index mark on the stem.
If hanging from the roof alternate front and back wheel. Or Find a way to hang them at slightly different heights although you don't have much to play with.
remove front wheel put axle back in turn bars and hang by the axle / rear wheel on floor. means you can get the a pedal width apart. I had 5 side by side on the end of a 6 by 4 shed.
I've built a wooden shelf only just above bike saddle height - most of the other stuff goes on top of that. This weekend the other shed is getting a low shelf for lawnmower to go under, two bikes over.
Middle bike least used hung from handle bars against wall. Other two bikes hung from wheels.
If you hang bikes by the front wheel, be careful on the next ride if they've been hung for a while. Fork oil can seep into places it's not supposed to be...
