Apologies if this has been done already - if so I've missed it - but a rider had his mountain bike stolen, apparently at knifepoint by three men is a stolen car on Laneside in New Mills - the road that eventually leads up to the bridleway onto New Allotments yesterday morning. One report says they also had a 'gun', maybe a fake one.

The bike looks to be a Banshee Phantom and is pretty distinctive. The original post has been shared a couple of times on the Peak District MTB page on Facebook:

It just seems utterly insane that something like this should happen at 8.30 am on residential back street / quiet country lane. You have to think it's some sort of opportunistic theft by people from outside the local area, but who knows. Horrible.

That's horrible! I hope they get the bike back and catch the scumbags!

It looks a nice bike and the theft could be opportunistic but I suppose that it could, scarily, just as easily been targeted.

Blimey. Yeah, sounds opportunistic. I never would have expected that there.

If you go out dressed like that what do you expect?

Bloody Hell!!

Laneside - is that the one over near Shouty Dog Farm or the one over near Over Hill Road?. I've never seen anyone in a car up Shouty Dog Farm, but you do get the stoners parked up on the one near Over Hill Road.

Will keep an eye out as tend to ride there a bit. Any description on the car etc.. as nothing I can see in the FB post other than it was stolen

The facebook post doesn't say which one. Over Hill Road is a bit more remote though and when I used to regularly ride there kids in cars wasn't unusual. Never any bother though.
