I am off to NZ in a few weeks on a 2 year visa and intend to get the mtb shipped over (boxed), instead of flying with it. Has anyone had any experience of doing this? If so, how much have you/ would you expect to pay and are there any specific services/ websites I should look at using. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers
You could ask your new NZ mates, seeing as you are leaving these shores and I'm in no way jealous!
I have a cousin over there, and she uses local NZ shipping co / Courier to send stuff to UK (big boxes, various items) and then it comes to us from who ever courier there is a local link with. Basically, whichever courier you choose they simply outsource to a local provider unless you use on the international firms ie DHL / UPS etc. Get some quotes would be my advice as they change regularly, and also make sure you weigh and measure the parcel accurately as this is checked.
It depends if you want to sea or air freight? I'm heading over in a few weeks and will be shipping one of my bikes over by air freight to meet me. For a bike sized box it'll be around 50kg allowed and it was around 200quid plus some charges at the other end (probably 50 quid). Not cheap but much better than excess baggage!
