I have seen some bike specific shed hooks for storing the bike vertically in the shed before but now cant find what I am looking for. I dont really want anything like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Draper-Bike-Cycle-Bicycle-Storage-Hooks-Shed-Garage-/330470369262?pt=UK_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item4cf191a7ee#ht_500wt_928
What else are you using in your shed?
What's wrong with them? They've worked for my collection for the last 5 years....
Worked fine for me.
I use some like the link you posted - what's wrong with them? 🙂
Thread hijack/ whats the best equivalent for hanging them on the wall horizontally???
Where I want to mount them on the shed is on the thin panneling and I really want something I can screw on rather than the large threads! Also I though I saw something that had a support to keep the wheel straight as well. Ill keep searching!

thin panelling won't support bikes, you;d be better putting a batten across from the beams

That was the plan but looking at the size of those hooks it would have to be a pretty thick batten
You mean this sort of thing?
Thats it! 🙂 Why didnt I look on CRC instead of random DIY sites Doh!
In a couple of weeks we will be releasing an updated version of this:

Can't really say any more at the moment but it could be right up your street.
If you have thin shed walls it is better to still have the rear wheel resting on the ground.
I achieved this by having hooks (made from an old clothes drying rack) that stretch down from the beam at the wall/roof junction on a length of bungy elastic. If you get the elastic tension right (quite tight) the bikes hang perfectly straight with most of the weight going through the ground.
You can get them at Halfords, there a lot better than the crc ones.
Sorry, Martin_Pendle but almost the same thing at B&Q for £3!!!!
I use lifeline ones...

If space is tight, remove your front wheel, put back in the axle abd turn the bars side on. Sit the bike on it's back wheel with the axle through the hook. You have to have the hook at the right height but as the bars don't overlap you can fit the bikes closer together.
I considered vertical hanging in my cellar, but realised they would use up the same amout of space "into" the room, as they would stacked sideways against the wall (end to end for efficiency). By stacking side to side, I retained use of the wall for hanging other items like spare wheels, panniers, etc.
If I was going to hang bikes, I would hang them from the ceiling, with the front wheel removed (and a spare skewer through to protect the forks). Then hang bu the saddle and stem, with the bars twisted sideways (i.e. in line with the top tube).
For hanging horizontally from walls, B&Q do some brackets that do just the job. You'll find them near the other hooks in the hardware section.
I use these:

Work very well.
