Hi,
So Jnr CJR is only 11 weeks but mummy has given the green light to start researching seats for when he's old enough.
Front or rear mounted? Minimum ages? Any recommendations? Heard the Wee Ride is good? Anything second hand going soon?
Thanks in advance
I have a weeride my little girl has just grown out of (really great, lots of fun), but did have a rack mounted one for when she was too little to really hold herself up (she went in that at seven months)
If you're near Portsmouth, you're welcome to try either / both (Weeride was going on eBay soon anyway 😉 )
I don't think I put her in the weeride until after her third birthday, due to timing more than anything
We went rack mounted (topeak). That lasted until 3 or so at which point the little monster was wagging the tail of the bike a fair bit but was off his stabilisers and hooked up on the follow me (not on the road, cycle paths only).
Using a weeride for jnr 90.2. First used it when he was 10 months, he's currently 2. He's always liked it. Bike is much more balanced than with a rear mounted seat I've previously used for jnr 90.1. They feel more protected within your arms and its much easier to interact with them, and of course their view is better. Drawback is the John Wayne cycling style that needs to be adopted. I can't see jnr 90.2 fitting in it by the time he's 3. Maybe but have to resort to a rear seat at some point.
Weeride is great if your pedal stroke fits around it. Interfered with mine really badly to the point of being unrideable any more than the couple of miles to nursery. Also wouldn't fit on the MTB either, bees a decent length of head tube to clamp on. Ended up with a bobike instead, weight distribution is not as good but overall really like it, regularly go to Glentress with it, as well as the day to day commute.
Also front facing for sure, great for them to see what's going on rather than staring at your arse.
Polisport Guppy Mini, (not Maxior or Junior, which seem to be for the back)
had a wee ride and was ok but attachment is annoying. big heavy bar and limited to how far forward you can put them. and if you wnat to ride without the seat it's heavy and ugly.
guppy attachment looks way simpler and lighter too.
importantly it mounts to the frame, not the stem/steering.
front mounted is excellent but limited in size/age. there was a point when mine had to move to the back.
now back on the front on on of those cross-bar mounted saddle arangments, holding the bars.
We had a weeride.
Granted not a great fixing system and won't fit all bikes, however putting the child behind you looking at your back makes no sense what so ever
oh and weeride from 9 months here.
bad when they fall asleep tho. reclineable back seat was best for that.
Weerides great, fits all our bikes no problem, bar doesn't interfere with proper riding at all when the seat's off, I'm happy riding 2hours with the boy on it. He loves it, good views, he naps resting forwards no problem. We don't bother with the straps, he likes to stand up on it. Also did a few bits of semi tech offroad. Used it from 10months old. If macrides are available in a year I'd get one from age 2.5-3 or so.
Excellent, thanks all. Will have a look at the weeride and see if it works on my bike.
Cheers
Should be fine on my Scandal then. Good enough reason to build it back up!
Carbon 29er forks needed! Anyone?
