VW T6 smashed into me sideways today as I rode past a junction in Coleford resulting in lots of close attention from bystanders, the Cops and Ambo who were all fantastically efficient, kind and helpful as they scraped me off the floor outside Lidl.
The driver was suitably mortified and has offered to pay for the repairs to my bike which is looking very sorry for itself with a broken handlebar and tacoed front wheel at minimum (I can’t bear to look any closer at the moment).
So where is the best place to take a decent bike for repair in the FofD? I do all my own repairs and maintenance, never usually using a bike shop so have no idea which places are good and which aren’t at the moment. I figure it’s easier to let the bike shop assess and quote for repairs than do it myself in this instance.
Any suggestions?
Sprung Suspension
Ace Cycles
Dean Forest Cycles in Parkend.
As above.Very recently had forks looked after at Sprung and various other work at Ace. Recommended.
Not in the forest but Climb On bikes in Hereford or Slam 69 near Gloucester.
Cheltenham cycles
Cheers all.

Edit: Healing vibes, man!
Just a word of caution op, the driver "offering to pay" might partly be because "its only a bike" and might be a little shocked at the prices decent parts can cost.😉
If it's a Carrera, fair enough.
On that topic, it's not a carbon frame/ fork or such is it?
Most importantly, glad you are ok mate, though I'm guessing more than a little shocked.
I think Dean Forest Cycles is closest to me, so I’ve arranged to have them look at it on Friday.
Yeah, I’m beginning to doubt the ‘I’ll pay for any repairs’ offer. Hasn’t responded from the email address the cops gave me, and probably doesn’t realise the smashed handlebars are expensive and a like for like wheel is probably as much as most people pay for a bike from Halfords.
The police told me his insurance provider and gave me an incident number - do I just call the insurer and rsay one of your clients has wrecked my bike can you fix it? I don’t have any witness details because I was in the back of an ambulance.
Bike is a steel Kona Sutra Ltd, so frame is probably okay. Can’t say the same for the left hand side of my body which feels like it’s been systematically beaten with a cricket bat. Be alright in a couple of days though, nothing worse than I’ve inflicted on myself before now.
I just want my bike repaired as quickly as possible.
If you've been hit hard enough to snap a handlebar and bend a wheel, I'd be wanting frame alignment checked. If it's out of shape, with it being a steel frame it may be possible to bend it back into shape, but it's unlikely to be cost effective. Either way, the damage needs assessing properly. Also - any new scratches/scrapes/roadrash on controls and/or contact points?
Any joy with the van driver mate ?
Hasn’t responded to the email address he gave the cops. I’ll wait and see what the mechanic says tomorrow.
