Does anyone know how bright a smart 1/2w rear is compared to a Exposure, a Leyzne etc.
I have a couple of smarts on the road bike and thinking about some more lights but wondering what the options are.
And i don't care about car drivers and sensibilities, i have a section of trunk road on the commute, being seen and being seen early matters alot!!!
my mate has the smart lights. the rear is bright but just not the best
I'm running a smart 1 watt, 1/2 watt and a Exposure flare. The Flare is bright and quick to remove, but given a 1/2 watt only costs a £10 and uses normal batteries i'd just buy a few more of them.
My exposure had to be taken back after a week and replaced because water got inside. Also it randomly goes from constant to flashing without me touching it, which is annoying.
which smart lights that then ?
A smart light or THe smart 1/2 watt
i have both the smart half watt and an exposure red eye ... the exposures definantly brighter but hte flash cycles on the smart are good - the red eye doesnt flash.
i use both for max visibility
We have all the above in the shop and to be honest i'd stick with the smart 1/2w or any flashy type light around the £20 mark. The exposure and Lezyne range are nice n' slick but nae better as a rear light than the above mentioned smart which is a cracker of a light.
And the attachment bracket on the lezyne micro drive is utter crap and totally unfit for purpose as the light will fall out if you go over the slightest bump in the road.
I dont know about the brightness but I have just got one of the
Smart Lunar R2 2x1/2 Watt Rear Light, Very bright and different flashing modes 🙂 £ 15.99 may just get another one

Good price on the 1Watt here; http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=56546&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Shopping&utm_name=UnitedKingdom
Please please use at least one constant red light in addition to any flashers (as per trail_rat's post).
It is very hard to judge the distance to a single red light in disco mode.
I've got a couple of RSP Raleigh Astrum 2 x 1/2 watt lights which are great but On One are doing a virtually identical version for £5

EDIT: As above I have one on flash mode and the other on steady mode
smart is good and has a noticable flash pattern (the bean shaped one not lunar)
+1 for the R2 2 x 1/2w, a great little light. Was always disappointed with the sealing on the Smart lights - water would get in and the modes would change without physically changing it, the new R2 seems to have sorted that out (up to now anyway!).
That £5 on-one rear light looks like water would get right in just like the 'basic' smart ones IMO.
As with most biking goodies you tend to get what you pay for with lights

This is why i currently have two, one constant one flashing. Also gives a bit of redundancy if one fails.
And the lights i have are "Smart 1/2w" lights.
I just think more lights, more redundancy.
I'm currently running a Blackburn mars 3.0 which I'm very impressed with as its very bright and watertight. Also got a Lezyne femto which is ok as a back up but nowhere near as bright as the mars.
Recently bought a Smart Lunar r2. It's very bright. I use it on constant with one of those wide cateye lights (td610?) flashing away beneath it.
Also dug out an old basic Smart light to clip on my rucsack.
Don't know if it's coincidence buy seem to get given more space by overtaking cars since using multiple lights.

My mate has got both the RSP Astrum and the On One version and said they both seal the same so there should be no problems at all with them as mine is permanently attached the seat post and has been faultless during long wet rides on and off road. A bit of silicone grease is a good idea on the seals although I'm sure my initial application wore off a long time ago and they've still been fine.
Anyone do universalish rear light brackets? I have a couple of lights which must have come with brackets that I have lost and end up tiewrapping them to seatposts if I haven't got anyhting to clip them to.
