You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Thinking of taking my sons to Bike Park Wales in the spring, but as I don't expect them to do more than 3 or 4 descents during the whole day, I don't really want to get the full day uplift passes. Any idea of likely waiting times for the pay-as-you-go queue?
Thanks.
Same sort of thing we're planning for summer too. I've seen long queue days and short queue days...
I was slightly shocked it seems to have gone up to £10 entry each and then £5 per run, so even doing say 4 runs is £60 for the pair of us... Which in honesty isn't making it that much less than both of us just buying full day passes.
It's not bad, I never pay a day pass, but I live 30 mins South so I can be fairly relaxed about it.
IME, you might miss 1 bus (or rather collection of buses as they come in pairs and threes usually) but never 2. As above though, 4 descents and a day pass is £30 now, how much is a uplift day pass?
A day pass for the uplift is: Mon - Thurs = £35, Friday = £38, Saturday and Sunday - £42. This includes your £10 park entry fee
Hmm good point about the cost of PAYG with the price of the day pass . Maybe best to just bite the bullet and book some the day uplift. Then pray for some nice weather!
I went on the 23rd of December and there was no extra wait for the PAYG queue compared to the day pass. Pick a quiet day and you'll be fine. Pick a busy day and you will most likely wait a couple of buses if you happen to hit it at the peak times first thing in the morning and just after lunch.
I've done all the options - riding to the top (managed 6 runs top to bottom in a day, but wouldn't do it again; PAYG (felt like we were in some sort of weird apartheid situation when hoardes of riders kept jumping ahead of us; and day pass (by far the best option).
I'd go for the latter.

i went on the 30th December (Sunday) and there were lots of people waiting for quite a while in the PAYG line. Sometimes for 3-4 vans to go before there was space. If you reckon you'd get more than 4 runs done, i'd just get the day pass.
3-4 runs just cycle up. Take your time, have a break after a couple of runs no problem. Sod the uplift put your destiny in your own hands 😎😎
For me the ups are part of the day out and a good way of getting some reasonable training in.
After the first ascent only descend to the fire road, gives some good rides down and not too far up.
Are the climbs fire road or singletrack (or a bit of each)?
buy a couple, and do a couple of half runs, then climb up the fire road to the top, really isn’t that bad, plus it gives you a chance to talk about how thing s are going.
Wonder how much of a difference the new uplift bus will make? Looks like it fits about 30 riders on it!
It made a massive difference last time I went as it broke down and blocked the fire road for about 30 minutes.
Made a big difference to me too, nearly shattered my spine with the ride quality and made me feel almost sea sick from the motion...
Yeah it makes a massive difference. It makes you wonder if you can crawl up on your hands and knees faster than it goes.

They've upgraded to a slower bus??! Maybe it's in preparation for when they tarmac the road?

It's an old converted military 4 tonner so has 4 WD and is slow going. Plenty of room in it though and 28 people per uplift so 12 more than the minibuses can take in one go. The minibuses are definitely quicker up the hill but it's not by much.
How many uplift passes does it take to justify an e bike?
