So anyone have any suggestions?
Looking for something reasonable priced for in Northumberland/Kielder area for a week near Easter, somewhere I can go biking a couple Of times, and whilst I'm out the kids and misses won't get bored! Trying to find something under about £400 is proving difficult - would camp but have a wedding on Easter Sunday hence wanting to stay somewhere near by and make the most of being in that part of the country
We've been there 4 or 5 times, often beadnell area, lovely spot but haven't ridden much with kids as lots of fast narrow roads and hedges. Best place we've stayed is Beaconhill.
Rothbury is a good bet for easy riding for a quick escape, provides easy access to the cheviots and the coast.
Cracking cottage here ran by some friends of mine, they were talking about winding it down but pretty sure they haven't yet.

Quick tip, Kielder is miles from Northumberland and a pain to get to.
Depending on how much riding you want to do the Cheviots can be good but my local knowledge is a bit rusty. Thrunton is there for a quick ride.
It will be busy but you should be able to get a cottage up on the coast (Around Alnwick/Alnmouth/Banburgh way), where is the wedding?

🙂 It's all northumberland - big county you know 😉
+1 to the above, Kielder is miles away from anywhere really and in some cases not worth the hassle, I live in northumberland and know plenty of folk who go riding in the cheviots, seems to be plenty of tracks to ride round about the area.

I know I lived there for 20 years 🙂 Kielder is just takes ages to get to from the rest of it, it's quicker to get to Scotland
Were is the wedding Baz ? As mentioned Northumberland is a big county.
Thrunton and simonside near rothbury should kill a day or two, IMO thrunton is better. as others have said Northumberland is a big county and kielder can be a bit of a trek to get to, so going their to ride really depends on where you base yourself. northumberland also covers out past hexham and the allendale/north pennines which has fab riding so more info needed. 🙂
Thrunton will kill very little time unless you know where you are going.........loads of riding arround the kielder area anyhow along with the two puropse built trails (deadwater & lonesome pine) you also have the bloody bush trail to the scottish border that is linked from the board walk at the top of londsome pine trail and then the link over to newcastleton trail center from the top of bloody bush. Newcastleton is an easy drive from kielder too.
As for all of this ages and hard to get too rubbish, i live on the northumberland coast and dont see any time issue getting there and its a great place to ride, depends where/what transport the OP has availabe.
There are a couple of places have log cabins etc about so try a google for them. Where in Northumberland is the wedding and people may be a little more help.

Isn't the title a bit misleading? It's 'going to a wedding, stretch it out a bit and have some jack riding while the missus amuses the kids' isn't it?
If you are riding solo and don't know the area I'd stick to the more populated places. It is the least densely-populated county and I've seen some awful weather up there at Easter over the years.
A few folks are mentioning Simonside. Its footpath or fire road, and the FC are planning major havesting due to start imminently, which will affect the fire roads....Yes I am local and yes I do get grief for riding the footpaths :-O
Look elsewhere for singletrack fun 😉
there's lots to do in Kielder aside from biking, sailing, walking, the observatory, and a couple of decent pubs close by, that do good food, and if you know what you're doing it s 90 minute drive to newcastle. 45 mins to Hexham.
Perhaps the campsite under Keilder Castle for a few nights (pub next door with edible food) then a B&B for the night before the wedding?
Don't rule out the Tyne Valley. Plenty to do to keep family amused: boutiquey shops in Corbridge, massive softplay in Haltwhsitle, Not to mention Hadrian's Wall up the hill.
And cracking riding too, from cheeky woodsy stuff to epic moorland singletrack.
Although the coast is nice too.
But don't go telling everyone, its our secret 😉

The opposite side of the valley then.
Baz has gone Covert ?
