A mate of mine has got one of those Cannondale Super Six nano jobs. Carbon everywhere and where it isn't carbon it is Dura Ace.
He has a noisy drive train which the spanner chappy at the LBS can't sort.
'It's the titanium cassette' he says, 'they amplify noise'.
BS or truth? :o)
After seeing the work done by a bike shop just this week, check that the chain is routed through the rear mech correctly.
Utter BS.
Unless it's a SRAM Red cassette (which arent ti anyway) that's utter bilge.
Actually, Ti is known to resonate at a frequency that creates a lot of 'noise' on a bike. It's made worse by the specific damping range of carbon.
Like the 'flexy' Enve wheels?
We had a bit of a chuckle but it hasn't stopped the rattle!
Oh hold on, no, that's complete BS. My mistake 😉
The Pro2 rear in my Ti MTB frame certainly resonate a lot more than it does in anything else I've ridden 😆
When you say Dura Ace, do you mean Di2? I wonder if the LBS mechanic knows how to adjust it properly.
Wasn't there an issue with early batch da9000 cassettes creaking? Something about the carrier body iirc. I'm sure I haven't dreamt that. There were a couple of successful warranty claims.
Edit. Yep...
My 10 speed dura-ace cassette has 3 titanium sprockets. They are indeed noisy.
Same here. Both the early and the later 9000s all creak like buggery for me. I am a bit of a fatty at the moment mind...

I've done that. Built a new bike (105 group), test rode it. Everything seemed hunky dory. Sent to customer. He then road it on a Coast2Coat ride. He said the shifting wasn't as good as he was expecting so took it to a bike shop who told him the cables needed replacing as they were worn (10 days old), they didn't notice the problem. He eventually noticed it himself when cleaning the bike and realised the chain had practically sawn through the derailleur. I was ashamed.
If the mechanic was actually any good, he would of swapped out the cassette for another model, checked and reported back with facts and evidence. He hasn't so I'd find another mechanic.
Not hard to rule out stick another wheel\cassette in there and take it for a spin not hard to try
You nead another to make sure its a double blind experiment 😉
things like that are a real pain to find, nightmare! 👿
Had something like above the other day,
bike come in single up front, Fitted a new chain, cassette and Hope t-rex. test ride all Ok.
Back in a few days later, as there is a "clicking" noise from BB/drivechain,
Sounded more like indexing out, like chain catching the next spocket.
and worse when in biggest spockets
I ended swapped out parts for T/S
wheel
chain
cranks the cranks did it, thick chain ring as single speed.
Told him, he was all up for buying another ring off me then and there, but I talked him into to riding it a few more times as it should "wear in" and quieten down, if not I be happy to sell and fit a new chain ring.
Text yesterday saying it running well and it gone quieter.
Job done.
