is it worth buying the tools getting the gear off the internet and doing it myself?

To change the casette you need a casette tool and a chain whip.
To chage the rings you need an allen key and a screwdriver or better is a shimano ring key.

Definately worth getting the tools or borrow off a mate.

I do believe the Park website to be your friend: http://www.parktool.com/index.asp

you'll need a wrench with the appropriate cassette lockring remover attachment and a chainwhip to stop it rotating as you turn it anticlockwise.

Plus to change the chainrings you might need a chainring bolt tightening tool - if you look on the back of the chainring there's a slot. othewise you probably won't be able to nip the chainring up tight.
