I'm just about to get insurance for my bike and not sure who to go for, anybody got any recommendations? Looking at cycleguard.co.uk and they seem okay, anybody got any experience of them?

M&S home contents unless there's a specific reason you can't use a home contents insurer.

Specific bike insurers seem to be around 10% of the bike value per year and have a lot more T&Cs around how the bike is secured etc. Bit of a rip-off really unless you want some of the niche extras like race cover or roadside rescue.

I'll second M&S. IIRC, they cover you up to £4000 and you don't evenb have to tell them the bike details (unless you claim of course)

I doubt you'll get many different responses here other than M&S. It's the One True Way.

Go M&S and don't look back.

What if you make a claim though?

If you have your bike nicked from the roof of your car, your standalone policy will not affect your quote for the following year. What is the M&S stance on this?

If M&S bumps up your policy quote up for the following year because you have claimed on your home insurance for having your bike nicked, I would imagine that this could quickly negate any initial saving.

Dunno, not had to claim on mine yet... but I'd assume a specialist bike insurer could review the policy after the claim and bump up the premium to? Granted if the bike is of low value (like £500) then you might be better off with separate insurance to avoid any impact on your contents premium
