Looking for bike insurance, any worth using or avoiding ?

Already checked on house insurance, only insured up to the value of £500

Cheers

I'd ask your household insurers first - see what they want to up the cover

I moved my home insurance to M&S after a number of recommendations from cycling mates. They cover unamed items up to £4k each, including bikes. I can't find aything to match this. On my last home insurance I had to name each bike on the policy which really hiked the premium up. I also found that bike specific insurance is way too expensive and imposes a number of impractical T's & C's.

Found that the specialist companies have very unreasonable T&Cs

The best deal I found was with the Post Office, the bikes are added as additional items but didn't knock the premium up too much

Switched my contents insurance to M&S as well, I did have specialist insurance for a year but it costs about 10% of the bike's value and has way more 'get out of paying' T&Cs than M&S cover has.

Greenbee Insurance seem to be doing a similar deal to M&S (think they are underwritten by AXA like M&S used to be).

Worth checking them out if M&S keep hiking up the premiums. GreenBee quoted me £300 less this year for pretty much the same cover so probably bounce between those to keep costs down.

I had separate bike insurance a while back, it was a pain, they kept 'upgrading' my insurance level, I needed trackers in all the bikes etc. etc so it just got a PITA eventually.

I use contents cover for theft side of things and CTC membership gives free 3rd party cover. I also pay £80 for my roadbike as it covers it like a car and also for sportive/racing should I crash or cause damage to a 3rd party.

Clip someones wing mirror £50-90 and the paint £90 etc
Crash into someone and cause injury £££££
CTC is £35ish a year.
