following on from S40 thread really, i have moved onto a lovely XF 3.0 V6 diesel. i have looked at it (unfortunately no bike with me it was a little short notice) its a larger car with a bigger boot opening, but the gap between the boot and the seated area (once seats are folded) is quite low.

has anyone got one and managed it? googling doesn't throw up any responses

thank you!

I’ve got an xf estate, which I know will have more headroom, but lengthwise ought to be the same, and it has masses of room lengthwise. I carry 2 bikes regularly, just pop the front wheel off. That’s assuming you have folding rear seats of course..

It was an option. Had one for a bit and only realise once I had it. Lovely cars though.

I used to carry a bike in an XF saloon. There was plenty of space with the back seats down but as you’ve noticed the opening is not particularly big so it was a case of feeling it in with the front wheel off rather than just chucking it in. Perfectly do-able though and not much different from many other saloon cars.  I now have an XF estate and chucking is more of an option!

Have to say I love my XF estate as a bike wagon. Masses of room for two bikes and kit. I just put some old curtains between the bikes to prevent any scratching.

No one’s going to be able to tell you that for a particular car, all I can tell you is that I’ve had my current one for 6 years having intended to keep it for 2 and all it’s needed is routine servicing and replacement consumables.

Are the old curtains a factory-fit option? 😀

I really like them, mate has one and can easily fit a bike in, but his bike is a 2004 Cannondale hardtail, so isn't big or long.

I’ve got an XE and with 2 parts of the 3 part seats folded down I can get my bikes in with the wheels removed and the dropper in its lowest position ok. So I’d imagine an XF would be easier / bigger.

I got an large Orange 5 650b in my mk1 XF saloon boot. Needed both wheels off though.

In the boot, wheels off and seats down.

To be fair it was just a one-off when I collected the bike. I bought a roof rack pretty quick.

yea i take my bike to work/sites so need it inside, secure and out the way as i often ride on way home. if it is no more trouble than taking the front wheel off then should be ok. tomorrow is crunch time as i am seeing it with my bike
