Does anyone have experience of what you can and can not carry in your hand luggage. I was thinking of putting a few parts in my small rucksack like pedals, rear mech, brakes and rotors etc.

A friend once got a telling off for carrying tools so was wondering what others have encountered? I was thinking take parts but not tools may be OK?

Thank you for your input

I've had a pump, & tools refused before.

I think it's about how zealous they are and what thy imagine can be used as a weapon. Belfast City airport are an utter shower of jobsworths in this regard.

Was told I shouldn't have inner tubes, mech and tools in my hand luggage, but they let me through - "this time"

Why not put them in the bike bag?

I think the litmus test is "would it hurt if I crack you over the head with this?"

In which case, refusing a tube is very odd.

I'm from Glasgow and you are allowed to buy glass bottles of booze at duty free so your litmus test is flawed... 😆

Maybe not a cool idea then.

Make a fist arround it and use the valve as a knuckle duster?

Strangle someone?

Probably a little far fetched, and nothing you couldn't do with a belt but it's probably easier to ban everthing not considdered normal or benign than it is to list every object ever made.

Why not put them in the bike bag?

Cos it's full of bike & armour and would go overweight. Spares & stuff now go in the hold & my clothes in my hand-luggage.

I've had a FF helmet as my hand luggage with a couple of tshirts & smalls rolled up in it. Was a bugger to find anywhere to put it down 🙂

Surprised I didn't get hauled over by the check-in Nazis for that.
I could have worn it I spose...
