Middle daughter is after a new bike.

She currently has an old, 26” wheel, 17” frame spesh Myka hardtail and wants an orange five.

Thats going to be out of budget but I saw a Whyte 802 hardtail “compact” which looked ok.

Are these aimed at smaller riders/ladies as the daughter is quite a gangly thing, hence the 17” frame currently.

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Recommendations: She wants 140mm of rear wheel travel & your looking at hard tails....

Women’s specific geo is largely bollocks - get her the second hand Five she needs

My 13 year old daughter is 162cm and rides a 17 inch 603 and it fits fine. If I was being fussy it is a little long, but at the rate she is growing it won't be a problem for long.
