My old man retired a couple of months ago and has got bags of time on his hands. Went away with him a few weeks ago and hired him a bike and he loved it and subsequently asked me to get him one of his own.

Thought I'd get him something for Christmas and my sister has agreed to chip in. He'll only use it for canal paths etc.

Budget of around £200

Is ebay my best bet? Any other ideas?

What size rockitman and what sort of bike?

If he would like a classic british road bike (Carlton) and he's around 6 foot I might have just the thing 😉

He is around 6ft but rather have a mtb so I can drag him to a trail centre if he fancies it. Thanks for the offer though.

Ancient?

He's 65, but like user-removed said in his thread - fireroads, canals etc.

Can't see him throwing it down Jacobs Ladder...

Thanks for the linky user-removed, very helpful 🙂

Carrera Subway 1 from Halfords, the best bike at that price...

Me too Simon. Having never really been a biker though I suspect he may feel a little out of his depth. Might get him on a blue run at a trail centre or something and see how he feels about that so you never know 🙂

Be very careful, once the 'old man' starts riding with you you will never be rid of him!

Watch out man, it's a slippy slope. My Dad started at 60 on an old bike and within a year was pestering me for a 2nd hand FS. He got too rad for that about 62 and now has my Whyte 46! He's even got my Mum into it and when I phone home I get pestered for axel to crown lengths and what fork upgrades for christmas. 🙂

Great though, glad to hear you're Dad's on the start of the slippy slope! Maybe getting him something 2nd hand or building him something from the classifieds so that he can grow into it would work?
