I think it would be great if there was a site that shops could access where you post up what you want to buy. So, for example, I could say that I want to buy a Stumpjumper FSR Comp 650b size Large and shops then get in touch saying they have stock, what their price is, can supply mail order and whether or not they offer finance.

If it wasn't for the fact that suppliers like specialized control prices (still annoys me), they could then potentially enter into an reverse auction.

I know you can google this but this sort of approach would mean the smaller shops (who can't get their sites high up on Google) could compete on a level playing field.

It works in other industries, why not bikes.

ps. if anyone from a bike shop has a 2016 Stumpy on Sale they want to sell me, please let me know! Need 0% finance after a £400 deposit

How often do you get the bike on the shop floor?
If you ask for that bike they will order it from specialized then build it. Otherwise you are holding all the risk. Certainly in this end of the world. If you want something end of season the distributor will have a live list of what's left and the price available to most dealers.

Any discount will be used to pay for the interest you don't pay on the loan.

so perhaps this works best then at end of season when people have stock they want to clear.

Plenty of shops currently selling the stumpy with £550 off list price, there is no way that is the same value as the interest on a £1200 loan

Tried good shopping?
Does it have to be the same value? They will sell for the best price they can get.

I might also work if hops could undercut each other.

A high street shop in London will have higher overheads than an industrial unit in the midlands, so the London shop would only be able to offer RRP and make it's money selling to passing trade, a stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap operation with a fraction of the overheads could undercut them. And a decent LBS probably falls somewhere in between (middling overheads, but better service).

can supply mail order .......

well classically markets in which major players promote margin control are prone to disruptive influence, so yes it will happen, meanwhile milk and control, any bets how long?

Auto correct Google shopping, shows me loads of prices. Down here in Oz bike exchange does the bargain clear out stuff but their fees are high to list the bikes (ie the Web site takes a cut so less for you)
