You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm doing a bit of research about cycling in Cardiff, and want to talk to people who cycle round the city centre about infrastructure and experiences. Is anyone up for a chat?
I'm going to get to visit in a couple of weeks as well so also any information about what to look out for welcome...
Cheers 🙂
Ride occasionally through the centre itself, but mainly on the outskirts (Cathays area), any use?
Occasional commuter from St Mellons to Atlantic Wharf, if thats any help?
Safer to ride on the M4 than through Cardiff centre.
Ride most days through the city centre and it's actually pretty crap. Plenty of cycle lanes but they're poor quality and badly designed. They're meant to be improving things but the only new one that has gone in leads you into a pinch point! Happy to give you further experience if you want.
I ride from Canton to Penylan everyday, either through Pontcanna Fields and the university neighbourhood, or - especially if it's late - straight through city centre.
I'd be happy to chat. Email's in my profile, or you can PM me.
My commute is short and easy, hapy to talk but you might also want to contact Cardiff Cycling Campaign:
Like many cities, things are being done, but not necessarily done well enough, as has been noted above.
I find it pretty good compared to other cities I've been through. The city centre is annoying though with the pedestrianised bits, although worth noting that only Queen St has the local byelaw that fines you a tenner for riding on it, not the other pedestrianised bits. Quite a few things don't link up very well but it's manageable.
Heading in from the suburbs is generally very good IMO. Sometimes busy, but you (mostly) don't get any of the huge arterial nightmare roads like I've seen in other cities. Where they exist, they are easily avoidable if you check a map, EXCEPT for Newport Road. There isn't a good alternative to the Eastern end of it and it's a terrible cycling road.
When I do ride in I'm usually going to the station from Pontprennau.
Thanks all I will be in touch when back on laptop.
I’m thinking of a visit on 29/30th if anyone is around. I saw there’s a regular cycle consultation meeting on the last Wednesday of every month. Has anyone been?
I’ve never gone, but I’ve often thought about it. Anyway, I’ll be happy to hear from you.
although worth noting that only Queen St has the local byelaw that fines you a tenner for riding on it,
I’ve seen it enforced as well. Along the lines of -
“Get off and walk”
Dippy student “I haven’t seen any signs!”
”You’ve stopped right next to one. Want a fine?”
Dippy student “What sign where?”
My 14 year old thought it was the funniest thing ever. 😀
