As per another thread I’m down south next week

I will be staying in a hotel and Mrs FD freaked when I said I would leave my new ebike in the car over night. So the only other option is to take the bike in to my hotel.

I know they won’t let me wheel it in, but a bike bag would work. Even if it means just putting the frame in first then going back for the wheels .

Planet X used to do bags that people thought were ok for the money but now I can’t see them.

Has anyone bought a cheap Amazon one? There don’t even appear to be many 2nd hand

Any ideas ? Ta

Many hotels (especially the Premier Inn / Holiday Inn type places) are fine with bikes in rooms.

Simplest option is an old duvet cover or mattress bag. More expensive options is things like Velosock:

Thats very kind but I’m not in Yorkshire.

I don’t want to take the risk of turning up without a bag and the turning me away.

Looking at this one currently

I'd start by asking the hotel if you can take the bike in - there may be a store room if not allowed in your room.

Edit - or a Velosoc or whatever they are called.

Id never leave my bike in the car over night. I've seen so many cars and vans broken into when leaving in a morning. Also is your bike covered by insurance if you leave the car unattended?

I always wheel my bike into the hotel. They will either store it for you or let you put it in the room.

When I'm on my bike and need to stay in a hotel I book a cheap Premier Inn. They don't give a f. Just make sure you bounce the mud off.

I got one for a tenner in the Polaris warehouse clearance last weekend... Might be worth a look on their eBay store or a quick call to see if they have any left?

I've got a planetx you can perma-loan on the way to Surrey, just off the A34 past Didcot.

Old duvet cover and just carry frame in as luggage?

Call the hotel and ask.

Also is your bike covered by insurance if you leave the car unattended?

You need to check your insurance wording.
Mine (Aviva) and my previous (M&S) will insure a a bike locked on an external rack, but won't insure inside a vehicle....

I've used a couple I got from Aldi for about a tenner each. I bought them a couple of years ago so they have them now but they are just very basic flexible bags. Perfectly fine for putting the bike in and taking into a hotel room.

I did need to have the handle bars sticking out, but it was fine.

If all you want is to cover the bike to carry it in, just get a big bag - doesn't need to be bike specific.

As above. Any big bag. Not sure what mine is, a neighbour was throwing it out. I think it might be a storage bag for a travelling display stand. I wouldn't use it on a plane, but great for putting in the car and taking into hotels and the like

There's giant plastic bags on Amazon for under £10 (for gift wrapping bikes) for such a niche use case I'd either get one of those of one of the cheap bike transport bags they have (and then buy something unrelated handmade locally to compensate for supporting Bezos and single-use plastic...)

+1 for call the hotel, Premier Inn are fine with bikes and actually advertise it. Holiday Inn IME aren't.

And as per the rest of the offers If you're passing Reading (I'm less than 2min off J11) I've got an old CRC bag you can loan.  The only problem is in a bag like that you've got the bars sticking out (it's easiest for keeping bikes in hotel rooms if you just do the zips up as far as the stem and leave the bars in their normal position) and worse the rest of the bikes weight is on the derailleur unless it's AXS and you can just remove it quickly.

I’m based in North Birmingham, I have a YT bag you can borrow for your trip.  You need to take your wheels off - Ii bought it for my YT Decoy - so it is big enough for an ebike.

Thanks again for all the kind offers.

someone locally was selling one on Facebook so picked it up this afternoon. Comes with alleged provenance , having once being used by Bradley Wiggins so I should be able to sell it for at least 10p more at some point
