You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So i bought a new frame a few weeks ago and its incredible, but as always there's always a but. so today i had to send it back for warranty as the linkage kept coming undone the shop i bought it from have been fantastic, but now i have a week left of my holiday with several days riding planned and no bike.
Do I find something else to do with my time off and let my friends down.
do i hire a bike for the riding and make sure we stay at Trail center locations to manage this. even though after buying a new frame i'm rather strapped for money. Especially if i end up getting a full new frame and have to tape it up again.
there is a chance that they just fix this frame which would also be fantastic.
should have held onto it for another week?
Have none of your friend anything you could borrow?
How much is hire?
Hire depends on where we go, could be 25 quid or 80 quid or any where between, Unfortunately due to the failure it wasn't usable.
bit annoying but as I say the shop have been fantastic, i have got the option of building up my old frame but thats gona cost money as id need to buy cables mech hanger and a cable guide.
Building up your old bike cheaper than hire.
Loan off a mate/stwer?
True mates won't feel let down.
OP hire for the first 4 days of the week. Ride the shit out of it then rest for the remainder. Cheaper and win win.
Under SoGA the retailer has to make good without "significant inconvenience" to yourself. Hit them up for a loaner.
(I'd ask nicely rather than go in with SoGA as an opening gambit, but it's good to know.)
So when is it time to call it quits, the frame I bought and sent back has been returned to mee with some changes I'm happy with this so build my bike back up for the second time strip brakes and rebleed them to thread through the frame. Go out for a gentle ride to see how it holds up before my weekend away, and it's still doing the same, so far i've had the bike for 5 and a half weeks 3 of these have been back at warrenty. Can I reject the frame and ask for my money back, this put me out of pocket for time and parts such as frame tape, seat post yet more brake fluid and the likes. It also means I'm gona need to hire a bike for my holiday which I've already payed for flights for. It also means stripping it down yet again.
Ask the shop to build it?
Hire a bike or get hold of a demo bike.
Hiring a bike r getting the shop to build it's not the real issue the issue is more that the bike is now going back for the same problem for the second time.
3 weeks for warranty is quite poor to be honest. The fix has clearly not worked and it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to refund you.
As far as the bike for the holiday, would ask the shop for a demo bike.
What frame was it?
The shop have been more than helpfull, but i did buy the frame online and they are some distance away, hey are going to replace the frame Saracan Ariel, but now i fear the replacment is going to have the same issues as it seems like a common thing with the nor glide bushings, (mine were replaced with the new black bushings but that didn't help either.
The annoying thing is the fact i have to keep building and stripping the frame, which includes bleeding the brakes to thread hoses. My old frame was frame tapped up which they arn't going to reimburse me for.
Im also not really in a financial situation to pay for the new frame to be taped up or to be hiring a bike.
What exactly do you mean by taping? Heiltape on vulnerable contact areas or fully covered frame? A roll of tape from just riding along shouldn't be much.
Helitaped down tube, rear stays, high wear areas, getting a roll of tape is around £20 BUT getting it finished to a high quality is very time consuming or expensive, seening as i payed for it doing last time it was expensive.

Worth trying/looking into I'd say.
As for your time, in law you have no claim unless you lost money as a result of spending the time.
Heli tape/fluid etc - de minimis and chalk up to experience.
All in all - these are the risks of buying cheap online.
As it turns out i can reject the frame and get a full refund, which will be my next port of call if the replacement isn't right.
Frustrating as it is I don't think you should be expecting anything for the tape (an item you chose to add) or the bleeding/build time (as you bought a frame only?).
At this point I'd probably be asking for a refund if you genuinely think a replacement will suffer the same issue, you'll forever be worrying about it otherwise.
Cut your losses and move on, maybe ask the shop if they'll do little extra deal on a different frame as a good will gesture?

Given there was a thread about the exact issue you have reported, I'd take up their off of the refund and look elsewhere. I'd recommend a trance, very impressed with mine. ( http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/trance.27.5.frameset/19232/77350/)
I'd just have a look on PinkBike/eBay/gumtree/local FB groups/here etc. for a second hand bike then sell it when you get yours back.
Could end up costing you nothing/turning a small profit if you pick wisely.
